Anyone had oil change at national tyres

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone has had an oil and filter change at national tyres? Went on their website and to get an oil and filter change on my octy Vrs tdi its £40.46. I was going to pay that just for the oil from halfords so seems a good deal and saves me getting my hands dirty. The oil they say they will use is Titan GTI Pro-C3 5w30 XTL. A search of that oil says it meets vw 505 00 / 507 00 spec, should be able to buy a good quality filter and ask them to fit that instead of the one they supply I would hope.

Also mentioned here this time last year...

As you mention, one very important thing to ask... your car must use oil that meets the VW 507.00 spec. This is low ash oil that is needed to preserve the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) fitted to your car.

Oil filters are much of a likeness these days. A non-branded one is £6 a Bosch one is £8. I'd be happy using their filter but each to their own.

Yeah I was going to ask when I go down to make sure it is the correct spec. Oil filters they use are unipart I think, if they are all much the same I would just get the one they supply then. Had the car serviced about 10000 miles ago so just want the oil changed as car is on 95k and don't fancy leaving it another 6-12 months for it

National is like going to Tesco for wiper blades, I wouldn't trust a fast fitting place with a barge pole! Indy specialist or main dealer! The likes of kwik fix, national, etc is they employ utter Bellends that are hammered for targets, your simple oil change will cost you more cause they'll definitely find something else wrong with your car. National tyres is the name of the company, I certainly wouldn't use a tyre garage to do an oil & filter. Personal opinion

I would only use those sorts of places as a last resort.

About two years ago I took my Octy Scout to my local NT to swap my alloys over to my steelies, price agreed was same as previous year (£20), told to come back in 30 minutes.

Came back to find car untouched, told the Branch Manager stated price to swap over was £70 due to replacing valves, tyre disposal and a few other sundries, even though none of that work would be carried out.

Took it to my local independent garage who carried out the swap for £10 there and then.

I wrote a letter of complaint to NT Head Office who sent me a £10 voucher and was informed they would 'have a word' with the BM. Trading Standards weren't interested as I hadn't paid the £70.

Think I will just get the stuff and do it myself, i have put my reg in eurocarparts and it says the oil I need - Triple QX SynPlus VAG 5W30, says "without dpf" so not sure if this is correct oil, can anyone confirm this is the correct spec for pd170 Vrs

I saw that but just seems that cheap I am a bit wary as people say there's a lot of fake oil on eBay

That link to ebay is cardif audi just look at there feed back its genuine,or go to your local tps and get quantum longlife oil and a genuine oil filter .

Yeah just had a look and ordered it, seems like a great price. Will need to get a filter but is two different filters showing for my reg on ecp

You are right to be cautious about fake oil on eBay but the link I provided is from the main franchised Audi dealer in Cardiff.

I've had several oil changes at national tyres over the years and never had a problem with them.. ok none have been with my Skoda or specified a particular grade of oil but if they say they're going to use a particular brand of oil in your car then surely they must use it as the consequences of not would cost a fortune in compensation and fines from trading standards...

I've also never walked away paying more than the agreed price as they don't do extra without your explicit agreement .. the only thing they make no mention of in their advertising is replacing the sump plug which I believe has to be done at every oil change ...
