Hullo

I got a second quote from Greenlight Insurance yesterday - And it's

Jason go for L&V their customer service is amazing i have messed my policy around 4 times in the past year and it is all ways "no problem sir"

i cannot reccomend them highly enough.

What are L&V like when you're involved with some sort of claim?

Still trying to get a quote for the furby vRS and LV don't yet have it on their system...

Very few insurance companies seem to be up to speed on the new furby, so I wonder how you're meant to get insured!

L&V don't impose a mileage limit, cover Class 1 business use, give 180 days continental cover, third party cover for driving other cars,

I get the same feeling, Denis - and I don't remember them mentioning the unlimited mileage to me. I probably wouldn't have bothered ringing elsewhere then.

PS: A lot of the reasons why I think my insurance is low'ish, is I've been asked what the "value" of my car is, and TBH I can't really think of an accurate worth. I've been using between

They can work out how much a car is worth...it's just to check that it's not too low or too high!

Liverpool Victoria too IIRC... ?

I'm insured with MRIB in High Wycombe, they charged me another 10%pa for all my mods (Jabba remap, exhaust, induction, dv) for a 25% (approx ;) ) increase in power. Premium is now approx 825 squids pa.

Correct, 10 points to the man with the lil Furby and the sheep fetish :D

Re: Liverpool Victoria. I was about to get on line quote from them earlier this week (just to compare, I'm not at renewal time just yet) but I got interrupted and didn't continue. However I did notice on their motor insurance home page that they do not insure modified cars. Is this just to scare off the Nova boys? Are they a little more enlightened when you actually speak to them?

Rich, when / if you call LV make sure you tell the rep that the car is, or will be modified.

The Rep will ask for details, and usually consult with a Supervisor to make sure your mods are acceptable. The general rule is, as long as you don't increase engine capacity, they aren't worried ;)

Just keep receipts & photos of any mods, should you need to claim.

They apparently used to charge a small additional fee for mods, but dropped it recently, presumably to increase trade.

sheep fetish? I think it was everyone else that started the sheep thing?

I've just got a reasonable memory of what everyone says here.

On the Liverpool Victoria theme, I noticed that they are the underwriters for What Car? insurance. Any body tried them for a quopte and seen if there is much difference between there quotes and mod policy

Nope - But I will now... :D:thumbup:

I've just managed to get a quote from Eagle star who were very reasonable - As long as you have a clean driving history and there are no mods a Fabia vRS protected no claims

A Question for LV policy holders : -

When you tell them over the phone that (eg) your car has been Jabba'd, do they (1) Ask for details of BHP increases, and (2) Do the Policy documents that arrive list everything you tell them ?

I ask as if for example you 30/40% more power, an exhaust, different suspension, wheels, if its listed on the Schedule, they can't claim that they didn't know or refuse to pay out for the cost of the exact (or equivalent) mods you made? If you know what I mean ?

Mine is due next month.

Rob,

I've just renewed mine with LV as many on here have recommended it. It would probably work out expensive if my car was standard.

The first time I phoned for a quote, the guy said mods dont increase your premium as long as the engine capacity doesnt increase. That includes anything engine related, wheels & tyres, suspension, tinted windows etc etc.

He suggested taking photos of any mods on the car and keeping receipts (otherwise in the event of a payout they would only give standard value)

He also said my 3 points wouldnt make a difference.

The second time i phoned (to actually arrange it) a different person had to "go and check with someone" after asking me % power increase etc. He must have been new.

He then confirmed what was said the first time I called.

My new LV certificate doesnt list any mods, so I suppose it might be a good idea to get it in writing.

I did confirm the modifications several times just to make sure, as i couldnt quite believe it.

did u get any of it down on writing??

Might be a good idea though! Will phone Monday.

Anyone else with LV get written confirmation? Denis? Geoff?

I got confirmation on 2 separate occasions from LV that mods (other than engine capacity change) would not affect the premium. I mentioned that I was about to have the car remapped when I took out the insurance and again the only requirement was to keep copies of receipts for parts fitted/tuning done. The policy document makes no mention of mods fitted. However the Motor Document of Insurance booklet does require that you notify LV as soon as possible about any changes which have happened since the insurance started or since last renewal. I would read that to mean you should tell them of any mods you make and when you make them.

Although I told them I was going to have my car remapped, I will phone on Monday and let them know I have had it done, plus the DV and cruise control. I will report back what they say.

[Final sentence since deleted to avoid unintended offence to vRS owners insured with LV]

It must be a policy because we are all, without exception, getting told the same thing re. mods. ie. keep your receipts and there 'will be no problem in the event of a claim.'

I talked to 3 LV people and they all said the same thing. I must say that if they tried to backtrack, they would be on very dubous grounds given what they have told so many of us.

I was initially very sceptical when Denis mentioned this a while back. Having since heard directly and what they have told others here, I'm about as convinced as one could get re. the veracity of their position on mods.
