Remapped Insurance

Featured Replies

I am insured with Frizzells ( a LV subsidiary). They obviously work under different rules from LV, since they do charge extra for mods (but see below).

When I phoned to advise them of my impending remap, they just asked which company would be doing it. They weren't interested in how much it would affect the performance.

They also confirmed that it would add a whole

I raised the question about what the Policy docs said because all the cars I've had modded have always had the changes specifically listed - sort of a two-way cover for the insurer and insured.

Interested to know how you get on with LV Denis, as I'll be getting renewal quotes at the end of the month and LV looks the top candidate if I change from my current insurer.

If it sounds as though LV will remain very friendly (or oblivious!) then you're right - you might as well make provision when you first insure by listing everything that you are likely to improve over the next 12 months !

Just to clarify, Frizell are the parent company of L&V.

Frizell are a HUGE company and have been going since Denis was a lad ;)

Mike, i suspect that

Huck, your quote needs an edit :D

There's worrying and there's being naturally cautious when dealing with ANY insurance company (not especially LV as they seem very relaxed) ! From past experience, if you don't get it in writing from an insurer, then get the full name of the person you spoke to and when. Then you don't need to worry:)

Fair point. :) Better to be safe than sorry and all that....

With all the people who've come on here documenting what LV have told them, I think it's all pretty academic.

It's all good :)

If you're really worried, send them a recorded delivery letter stating you want clarification.

If you're not worried, don't :)

But, i would suggest that you call them before ANY future additional mods, just in case they change their attitude.

I don't see anyone questioning why LV don't ask if you have additional security on your car, particularly the vRS.

Or why they don't have a problem with penalty points, unless you have a previous ban.

Or how many miles you do

etc etc.....

Considering most other insurers hammer you if you have points - i'm surprised LV dont but hey I'm not complaining! :D

No mileage limits too which makes a refreshing change.

Its really annoying when some insurance companies charge significantly more when changing your annual mileage from say 10,000 to 12,000.

Good old LV!

After some further digging, it seems the no charge for mods policy was only introduced on April 1st 2003.

Therefore it is a definite policy. ;)

April 1st!

Might have to give LV a ring at renewal time then! Have a few plans that Direct Line wouldn't be too happy about! :D

Do you think LV will buy it if I say my Octavia is performing well within manufacturer's design tolerances with 'no mechanical changes' ? B*****r, I forgot the dump valve ;)

I'll definitely give them a go :)

By the way Denis, your little anti vRS comment is somewhat ill-judged in my opinion.

I didn't find it particularly offensive Denis.

Its just that the widely held belief that younger drivers, or drivers of a particular kind of car are a bad risk, is a large factor in the ridiculous insurance premiums we find ourselves paying.

Whereas in reality, we spend stupid amounts of money on our cars, and spare no expense taking care of them.

Just a personal pet hate ;)

May I also join in the ongoing Liverpool Victoria happy-fest?

All this is for a 35 year old, clean licence, full NCD, one driver (me :D ).

My premium for the year from Direct Line was
