NOISE IN REAR SUSPENSION

Recommended Posts

Well what do you know. Yesterday I sent "difference" Skoda report to the dealership that we bought our car from. I made a comment whether I should be speaking to the service manager. Now just a few minutes ago I received a call from the service department saying that I had problems with knocking and that they would fix it. Very interesting since I have not complained about knocking sounds only that others have been talking about it and that Skoda Stockholm had started carrying out a fix to this problem.

Anyway, I played along and now our car is going in to have this fix done on Tuesday next week even without my complaining. I can only summarise by saying that opening ones mouth gets results even when not expected. Not sure if I am pushing my luck but I have asked them to have a look at the washers at the same time (some here have mentioned having problems). Again, no problem for me but who knows maybe this is a similar type of problem. It exists and is known about but nothing gets done until it has to.

Edited: I think it is in its place to thank "difference" - THANK YOU!

I've just fired off an email to my dealer about the knocking noise with as much information as possible, specifically the information posted further up detailing the source of the problem and the fix. Now is the time you find out how good your supplying dealer really is. *rolls up sleeves and digs in for the long haul*  :D

I'm glad that my post helped you. :D

Btw. What is the known issue with washers?

Mine was fixed a week ago and now the car is really as it should have been from  the beginning! 4-point angle calibration was also done and car goes much straighter and is more relaxing to drive. Finally I have car that I really enjoy. Sas that this took almost 5 months...

I've been doing 1000 km since the wishbone bushes was replaced. And the car runs like a charm. It's really a big difference. Maybe it's mostly psychological, since I was driving around listening for the noise even in higher speeds.
I just love the car. :)

Left the car in at a little after 7 this morning and was given a call at 2.45 saying that it was ready. Spoke to the salesman before I left the showroom and he mentioned that they had only recently received information from Skoda about this problem and the solution. The service department had already mentioned to me what they had done and this was also confirmed by the salesman. Exactly what "difference" has mentioned in an earlier post.

I once again remarked that I had not heard this noise nor "shakes or rattles" and was very happy with our car. The salesman mentioned that he wanted to keep us a very happy customer and therefore told their service team to contact me as one of the first. He mentioned that they only had a handful of customers that have complained about this. According to him it only shows up on a few cars. My impression is this is not a problem that Skoda is going to actively go out and declare as a problem that has to be solved rather if the customer complains it is up to the dealer to solve this.

Concerning the washers there was no solution. All they had done was compare it with another car and that was similar. Did get a kind of partial acknowledgment that compared to our S2 there was a difference. Was told that they will follow this up when I have the car in for its first service or if Skoda should send out a bulletin about this.

On the whole I am still very impressed with the service given by our dealer Möller Bil and would still continue to recommend them. And, as far as the car is concerned, it is still Superb.

Edited: I should also mention that I had planed to by some Skoda cleaning products when I went to collect our car. When I asked to pay I was told "this is on us" - £25 :-)

Sorry, I thought I had mentioned the problem in an earlier post but it seams like that post didn´t get uploaded. I had even included some links.

From what I have followed here on Briskoda the washer "problem" can be summarised in lack of power (I´m no expert on what has been described by some here though). Let me try to describe what I have picked up: some are getting only one or two jet sprays per nozzle others three from one and one or two from the other. Others are expecting a fan like spread but are not getting it. Again, I don´t know if I have a problem or not as I get a fan like spray and it looks like three jets from both nozzles. The only thing I can really comment on is the spray is not as forceful as what I had on the S2.

The service team at Möller Bil don´t seem to think it is a problem at all. To be honest though as I mentioned earlier they only went out and tested on one other car and got the same results as produced by my washers. If I can find the threads here on Briskoda again I will link to them.

Had the same issue so I ordered a set of VW Passat washers from Amazon for just over £7 for the set. These are the 'fan' type and they are perfect! Took 2 minutes to replace.

These are the ones I bought but they can be found from other sellers on Amazon and Ebay:

I was pretty sure they changed the fan like spray to jet sprays on purpose. I think it's actually better than fan like spray. Not sure though if I have 2x3 jet sprays or if any is missing. Haven't thought about it. But I think it's better than the fan spray on my previous S2. :S

It sprays to around 8 - 10 places so I assumed that was a fan?

Look for this part number, should give you a fan nozzle washer : 5M0 955 985 C 9B9

Reading a bit more online people refer to these as "fan jet" washers

Took the technician out for a drive this morning and got less than 1 mile down the road before he said, "heard enough".  It is now in the workshop, will be doing 100+ mile after I pick it up later today so will update then.

Picked the car up this afternoon and had chance to speak to the technician that worked on it.  He said it was an easy job and having tested it after it is now silent.

Having done best part of 150 mile since I can certainly say it is now quiet, several stretches where it would make noise it now nothing.  In terms of does it feel different at normal speed, I think it does it seems to float more.

Good to hear. And yes, the job seems easy. It's just the 4x4 adjustment that has to be done after that take some time.

It's 4 wheel alignment that needs doing right with specialist rigs. Done poorly and it wrecks tyres in no time as I found out to my cost.

Isn't it just a normal 4 w alignment? If it's not done properly it should not be on you, they must do it again and buy you new tires! :(

You found the word I was looking for. Although we have not heard any noise from the rear suspension we had our car fixed on Tuesday and driving after that has been a different experience. I thought the feel and drive of the car was great before but so far now I think it is excellent. It feels like it is "floating".

Mine was in for 20,000 mile service last Friday, mentioned the noise and was informed of the replacement bushes to be fitted. Invited to book in to get the work done. Dealership had plenty of tech info about the problem and affected part numbers etc....

You didn't ask for it? I did. They checked. Found nothing. On the other hand I can't hear it anymore. So it was just a mind fu*k. [emoji14]
