Simply not so clever.

Featured Replies

Well, as we're all aware, one of Skoda's marketing points is the 'Simply Clever' idea of having an ice scraper inside the fuel filler cap. What a brilliant idea! I myself, when I purchased it, was hideously exited about the idea of getting frosty weather!

No more carrying scrapers in your car. No more getting ice, water, snow and crap inside your car after scraping. And no more forgetting to put it in the car before winter and getting stuck with an icy window somewhere.

So, you can imagine my excitement when i'd finished work at 0100 this morning to find thick frost all over the car. Excellent! I thought; heated windows on, just a little scrape of the side windows using the cleverly placed scraper in the filler cap, and we're done!

Oh wait....being frosty 'n' all, the filler cap is frozen shut  :swear:  :dull:.

:finger: you, Skoda, and your false sense of security.

What you need is a dough scraper - couple of quid from any good cook shop

yes this happened to me in December whilst up North. Easy solution is to "huff" or breathe on it. Warning though it will pop out and hit the end of your nose (d:oh)

Couldn't even open the rear doors this morning, seals along the tops of the doors had frozen had to prize open which felt like the top half was going to fold in half.

Have the same thing with my car. The first time it happened I found a black stone/rubbery thing next to my door when I eventually pryed it open. Had it in my hand for an hour before my hands warmed up enough to realise it was just a stone and not part of the trim

Must admit I'm slighty concerned about the damage that might be done by water that has collected and frozen in the front doors. Been back to the dealer about the water collecting and they said they're fine.

Ahh.. Im so glad I enjoy the pleasure of having a Webasto ;)

Rub a small amount of Vaseline onto the door rubbers it will stop them sticking.

A friend arrived back from a holiday in the middle of the very frosty night, huffing did nothing to release the lock but hot urine sorted it out  :D

Not sure about the fuel flap, but I find applying Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber Care with a dish sponge stops the door rubbers from sticking.

Current temperature at the moment is -5°C, even during the 'summer' the temperature would occasionally hover around 0°C when going to work at 0400.

I keep an ice scraper in the boot and glovebox in the hope I've covered every eventually. :)

Just use furniture spray polish on the seals when you've washed the car. It's got silicone in it

Do yourself a favour. Buy this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swedish-Ice-Scraper-Original-Yellow/dp/B009SKM7Z4/ref=lp_303624031_1_9?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1452961520&sr=1-9

Hands down the best scraper you will every buy.

For the door seals, get yourself a tin of Wurth Silicon Spray.

Excellent as that looks, it's very expensive for a scraper :/

I'll see what i've got in the house a put some on the seals (Might have some Autoglym vinyl stuff somewhere).

I'm more concerned about the pool of water that does not drain when the car is parked on a slope if it rains. Would it be enough to take paint off or warp the metal as the door is opened when it's frozen, do you think?

Doubt it, This is my third winter with an O3 and not had any issues.

Thats just what I thought until I used it. It's worth EVERY penny, and is vastly superior to probably the 5 or 10 ice scrapers I've had and binned in the past (including the replacement Nectar cards and debit card when I was desperate), so overall, it's been good value. I couldn't understand what was so good about it until I borrowed a friends, and I was sold.

I don't why but this made me laugh so much my head hurt. My wife and daughter can't see the funny side. It's probably because when I picked up the car the first thing I did was open the petrol cap and demand a new scraper as there wasn't one there. Glad I'm not the only one. Nearly said oddball but I didn't want to offend.

I bet they 'forgot' the litre of oil in its trendy Skoda jacket in the boot as well :)

They did however provide a lovely little green pouch for my locking wheel nut key when they fitted new tyres  ;)

I've read Gummi Pledge is the bees knees for door seals too.  Personally i find AG vinyl and rubber care ok for cleaning interior trim to a shine but too thin for exterior stuff, here i use their bumper and trim gel.  Apply it periodically through the year to keep seals protected from UV, stop them absorbing water (the cause of the frozen door) and keep them lovely and black

Another plus 1 for gummi pflege, its the only thing that will stop the wife's 330 coupe windows from freezing to the seals
