Detachable Tow Bar Recommendations for Skoda Fabia Hatchback

Featured Replies

Hi!

I'm looking at getting a detachable tow bar/towbar for my Skoda Fabia Hatchback (11 plate), but having had a look online I'm staggered by the choices.

Do any of you have any recommendations?

Budget is around £150 and I'm not fussed if it doesn't have electrics as it's for a bike-rack. I don't mind cutting the rear bumper to make it fit, so long as it isn't obvious.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Even with just a bike rack you would still need electrics which bump up the price.

I would recommend a Westfalia as the bumper cut outs are designed around this towbar so just a matter of unclipping the piece if it's not already been done. It might just be just within your budget if you went for a fixed swan neck otherwise have a look for a 2nd hand one.

I Take it your budget doesn't include fitting? I git one for my Ibiza (same one fits Polo and Fabia). It's not a detachable, it's a swan neck, but 2 bolts and the bar is off and it's almost invisible. I use mine for a bike rack and small trailer. You'll need 7 pin electrics for the lights on the bike rack. Mine are wired through a bypass relay and I've had no problems with bulb warning lights on the dash.

I got mine from eBay from towbars4cars which also go under the name toys4vans - but I don't see anything on their eBay shop now.

Fitting was pretty straight forward if you've not done it before.

Sometimes they are right and sometimes they are wrong though.   Often wrong.

When wrong, they are not the person driving the car.

Like it depends on the bikes you have on the rack, if you have the wheels off, if the Side, Brake, Fog & Indicators and Number Plate can clearly be seen with the bikes on the rack.

Easy enough to get a Socket fitted to have a Light Board on,

just incase you borrow someone elses Bike Rack with lights or even a Trailer sometime.

Since you can not legally get a vRS towbar i usually have the bikes inside, and the high rack is used with dirty bikes for a short distance until washed or transported with the wheels off the bikes.

& not up high like here stopping me getting into car parks with barriers with height restriction.
