interior light issue someone please help!

im new to the forum and currently own a mk1 fabia vrs, i brought the vehicle knowing that the interior lights didnt work, however i would love to get them working. ive checked the wiring from the interior light down the b pillar on the passenger side ive checked the fuse and also bench tested the interior light using a battery. the problem im having is that the doors are being recognized as being open as the red light comes on the dash and the alarm for the lights on still works its just not one of the interior lights work anyone had these issues before and could possibly point me in the right direction.
