Superb vs Octavia

Featured Replies

Thinking of upgrading my Octavia mk2 to a 3 but I am starting to think the Superb offers better value. Finding it hard to decide. Need to test drive a Superb really but ideally would be the TSI 280

We have both cars, as good as the Octavia 3 is the Superb is miles better. If the budget can stretch to one, go for the Superb

I agree, I've had a Mk1 & Mk2 Octavia then Mk2 & Mk3 Superb. I wouldn't go back from my Superb now.

Suggest you get a test drive then take the plunge, you won't regret.

I was thinking about the same upgrade but then compared the prices and came to the same conclusion - Superb mk3 offers a lot more car that Octavia mk3 for the money. I have no regrets :)

I have to echo the comments already made. We had a mk1 Octavia, then a mk2 Superb. We pick up our mk3 Superb on Saturday. Couldn't go back to an Ocravia now. Great car, but the Superb is just that, Superb!

I have the company Octavia MK3 SE Business, which is a fabulous car, no complaints what so ever, drive all over the South Coast in it, but I now have my own new Superb SEL Exec, what a huge step up in comfort and style this car is, every gadget under the sun and the room, well we all know how great that is, overall, Superb without a shadow of a doubt.

I think you would be lucky to get a test in a 280.

Just test any superb then imagine it with tons more performance. Imagine every trip ending with with a big grin. Imagine planting your foot in second gear and shouting holy sh@t ! Imagine your kids shouting oh my god when you set off quickly and then laughing as much as you. Imagine looking across the lights at the smug git who has decided to burn you off.... Hold your index finger upto him and say.... Your pardoned..... Or stick her into Sport and say your HISTORY !

Yup that's 280 ownership ;-)

Imagine your emaciated bank balance as you discover that it's the petrol guzzling equivalent of Oliver Reid  :D

I currently have a Mk II 170 DSG Elegance Combi. Test drove a 150 SE hatch manual with the tiny alloy wheels so the only thing I could really check on was whether the steering wheel was the right shape and how many doors it had.

I have a 280 L&K hatch with 19" alloys on order

Amazingly though on paper at least I think the fuel figures were better then my old 1.8 Scout ! Welcome to the club :-D

There's a 280 for sale in Skoda Winchester. It's the guvnors car & it's collecting a lot of miles, but if you expressed an interest in it you should get a test drive. ......

HTH, DC.

Definitely echo the comments above. I had four Octavias which were great but getting my first Superb was such a step up in many ways. The comfort and refinement alone really sets the two apart. Price differentials are close too especially at lower and mid range in the Superb, obviously not so much at the 280 end! Good luck with your choice!

Just to put my two penneth in I have had mk1, mk2 and a mk3 Octavia I loved the MK 2 VRS great car then moved to a couple of Superbs fantastic cars, then on to a mk3 VRS got rid after a year not impressed back to the Superb I went much better. Now saving up for a mk3 Superb estate, 280 of course.

I am lucky enough to move between the MK3 Octavia and the New Superb on a daily basis, love my Octavia SE Business, great day to day car, but as soon as I get out of the Octavia and into my New Superb, oh joy, there is no comparison, the Superb is just Superb, luxury and style in my humble opinion.

Thanks for the feedback guys, helping me make up my mind.

I have a Mk3 Octavia Elegance....its nice enough but having sat in a nicely spec'd SE-L Exec whilst the car was in for a service....its nicer. I wouldnt say the material quality is much different..just seems that bit more robustly put together and better detailed...like a Passat I suppose.

I have a Mk7 Golf GTD also (company car, the Octavia is owned) and have to say that is far nicer inside than the Octavia....really if Im honest its also much on par with the Superb as the Golf feels more robust and is far better detailed equally.

Had the Mk3 Superb been available when I was looking to buy the Octavia Id have been all over it...the only reason i didnt buy a Mk2 was that I knew it was due to be replaced and the new Octavia was MQB based and far more modern.

I spent a good hour at the dealer starting with a used Rapid, which seemed like good value at £8k. But then you sit in the back and feel the horrid man made fibre seats, stiff as a board, and wobble the transmission tunnel plastics around (literally feel stapled on) and see the scratchy plastics up front and dated interior. Welcome to Slovakia, komrade!

And then you move on to the MKIII Octavia and while it's an improvement, it still feels a generation behind the competition. Still some wobbly, scratchy plastics around and nasty fabric seats, still not a great feeling of space...

...and then you sit in a Superb and can't believe that it doesn't have an Audi badge on the nose. It really is worth every penny over its smaller cousins (not dismissing them at all). I actually went to the dealer with the intention of order a manual Octavia VRS but came away with a Superb 150 DSG estate, which should give you some indication about its quality. Still want the VRS alloys though :(

The Octavia is always leapfrogged by the Superb for interior quality. When the Mk3 Octavia is facelifted, it's likely the interior will have some upgrades to bring it closer to the Mk3 Superb. It was the same situation for the Mk2 Octavia and Superb. The former got a facelift

When you look at the boggo diesel vRS, it's around £3.5k cheaper than the boggo 5 door GTD. That difference in price unfortunately has to come out somewhere. In this case, it's mostly the interior plastics and trim. That's the VW hierarchy in action.

There's a reason the Rapid doesn't sell too rapidly in the UK......

I can't see it lasting that much longer, seeing as the vastly superior Fabia is snapping at its heels.

They cocked up the price and standard spec balance for the UK market.

Hi everyone, I am facing the same dilemma - looking to change my Octy2 1.9TDI Elegance which has given my 9 faithful years of service which I got when it was 2 years old.  Thinking it might be time to let it go before I get any major bills. The S3 looks a whole lot sharper than the Octy3 which doesn't seem that much of a upgrade to my Octy2 other than the interior is slightly more modern looking.  Only bugging me with the S3 is whether it's size will give me any problems when to comes to parking. Although only 20cm longer than the Octy3, in the flesh it seems much bigger! I test drove one on Saturday but the test drive didn't really give me a chance to assess that aspect. Drove really nice! Did the OP make a decision?

I have a nearly 9 year old mk2 Octy Elegance and currently have an S3 L&K on order :)

I nearly went with a new Octy but to be honest the price difference between the two was so marginal it seemed silly not to get the Superb really. Sooo much more car for a fairly small amount extra. And that was going through a dealer, when I found the online brokers it just didn't make any sense not to buy the Superb.

I didn't buy an S3 but after 4 Octavias myself - the S2 I own is miles better! Can only imagine the mark 3 is much better again. Wouldn't buy another Octavia now - would miss the space!

How do feel about the size of the car - for me, it seems a step up from my Octy2 and I may be unduly worrying about parking!

I looked seriously at a Superb when we bought the Octavia, I figgered the drivers seat experience was about the same, we didnt need the Superb room in the back and harder to park (for SM)

The Octy has "done rightly" though in hindsight with our almost weekly (of the past 18 months) 200 mile round trips to Donegal and back with my wife, the large dog  and my mother, the plusher roomier limousine like space in the back would have been appreciated by my wife and the Dog.

And the kitchen sink.

And whatever else SM has to bring along, just in case  ..  ..  .

Our next car therefore might well be a Superb.
