Wiring switched live - high current possibly?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, this has been an excellent read. I have a 9n3 polo GTI and I have OEM tartan heated seats, and a kufatec loom. I've got everything else wired up and in place, bar the permanent feed so this has been very helpful.

So what was the final concensus on this @hutchysrs50?

This is how I've wired up the rest.. please correct me if I'm wrong!

2x purple plugs - attach to the heated seat switches.

2x green plugs - attach to the plugs under each heated seat.

1x 'Beleuchtung' - Translates to 'Lighting'. This connects to an illumination wire i.e. Grey/bluestripe wire. This will cause the heated seat swiches to light up.

1x 'Masse' - Translates to 'Ground'. This connects to an earthing point. There's a round end terminal on the loom for this wire.

1x Loose wire (about 6 inches) with fuse terminal connector. Connects to a permanent live source (This the point I'm stuck!) and the fuse terminal goes into Fuse 32 in the fuse box.

1x 'Dauerplus' - Translates to 'Continous positive'. This wire is part of the loom with heavier guage wire. It also has a fuse terminal connector, so it goes into fuse 32 as well.

1x 20amp fuse goes into Fuse 32.

1x 'Gelb' wire - Translates to 'Yellow'. I believe these go into the comfort control module (CCM) into XS2, into pin 3.

1x 'Violett' wire - Translates to 'Purple'. I believe these go into the comfort control module (CCM) into XS2, into pin 10.

Then needs activating with VCDS "+00032 = Heated Front Seats installed"

  • Awesome little thread which I've enjoyed reading!     Personally, I would do what was said earlier, i.e. take a feed off the heavy duty wire, fuse it with something higher than your 15A (that fused

  • Use a relay to switch the beefy permanent live energised by a light duty switched live and put a 15A fuse inline with the relay contacts.

  • Ok, 4th pin is for an earth? Found this on Google.... So.... Car battery (bus bar) will feed pin 30, I'll link them with a 15amp inline fuse Ground pin 85 I'll link to the same earth as the seat

Apparently if you connect the one you've called "Loose wire" to a permanent 12V, the heated seats can be left on when the ignition is not switched on; not a good idea.  The factory wiring doesn't use a permanent 12V supply as far as I could see from wiring diagrams.

So it's better to connect this to something that's not always on, either something like the feed side of the cabin fan fuse, or via a relay triggered by an ignition live signal to a permanent 12V. The latter is preferable, and was suggested by a few earlier in the thread; Hutchy has tested the other approach quite carefully and not found a problem. See his heated seat guide for full, well illustrated details.

As above, ive made a how to guide on here showing everything i've done and how ive wired the live feed.

I've just bridged mine from the switched live feed for the fans since its the biggest thickest switched live on the fuse box. Kufatec suggested somthing similar but translating the german might have got the wrong idea about it.

Basically i've left mine like that, its been a few weeks now and ive had no issues. Had a few long drives (around 45 minutes) with both front seats on the max setting of 5 and fans between 1 & 3 speed setting for different amounts of time and had no issues what so ever.

All i havnt tested is leaving both seats on the max setting of 5 and the fans on max setting of 4, dont want to risk anything :D

To add, ive also lowerd the fuse for the fans down to 20A from 25A and lowerd the fuse for the heated seats down from 15A to 10A so then "technically" i can only run 30A before a fuse blows. I took my car to a auto electritian and they confirmed the fan wire feed is also fused further down the line.
