What cars has been owned and tested befor choose Superb III

Recommended Posts

Previous cars since 1998:

Citroen Saxo 1998 (free insurance for 2 years, great when I was 18!!)

Citroen Xsara VTR 2000

Honda CRV 2.2 CTDi 2009

Mercedes C220 Estate 2012

Skoda Superb III SE L Estate due in March 2016, didn't test drive.

Test driven over the years:

Nissan Qashqai

Ford Focus

Tesla S P85D (OMG it's quick!!)

Toyota Supra Twin Turbo

Hyundai Accent

Subaru Impreza WRX

Subaru Legacy

Mazda MX5

Nissan Leaf

Would love an electric 2nd car, Tesla S is the dream but the reality would probably be a Leaf.

Space, space and more space. That's the biggest priority for me. It just so happens the Superb is massive, and a truly excellent car. I didn't bother trying anything else, that's how blinkered and resistant to change I really am!

My previous car record is patchy at first.

I passed my test in 1997, the year is when the car was made. I even remember every reg number of those vehicles.

1: 1987 Fiat panda, red, 999cc (more rust than car)

2 :1994 Ford Festa van, BT/Meteor grey :p  , 1.8D (ex BT - one of THOSE ones!)

3: 1998 Citroen Berlingo van, white, 1.9D

4: 2000 Vauxhall Astra LS estate, plain blue, 2.0DTI 99PS

5: 2001 Citroen Xantia hatch, metallic blue, 1.8 16V (aka 'Plastic Pig')

6: 2002 Nissan Primera estate SVE, silver, 2.2Di - MOST UNRELIABLE CAR EVER!

7: 2004 Skoda Octavia Mk1 Combi, Elegance, silver, PD130

8: 2006 Skoda Octavia Mk2 Combi, Elegance, Stone grey metallic, PD140 (dreaded BKD cracked cylinder head problem!)

9: 2007 Skoda Octavia Mk2 Combi, L&K, Black Magic, PD140 (MY08 model with light leather interior and Sputnik alloys)

10: 2010 Skoda Superb Mk2 Combi, Elegance, silver, CR170

11: 2013 Skoda Superb Mk2 FL Combi, Elegance, Candy white, CR170

12: 2016 Skoda Superb Mk3 Combi/Estate, L&K, Petrol blue, CR190 DSG - March 1st.

I was looking at Audi A6 and A5 cabrio before trying a Superb Mk2 and a Seat Leon estate. The Superb Mk3 was SO much better than the Mk2 - not sure if it's just newness or superior design (probably a combination).

Looking at the deals for Audi A4, that would probably be the main alternative option for me now, as the Superb is maybe too big. Still loving the Superb. Wonder how I'll feel in 23 months time when it's time to give back?!

It took a very long time (a year) to work out what I wanted. Maybe should start soon investigating my 2018 car...

Jaguar XE S?

As it will be a second car just for weekend fun it would have to be a lot cheaper and less practical!

I will probably end up with something 2 seater and convertible and then have a S/C retro fitted (may be another MX-5), but when talking about Jaguars the S Type R's have always appealed as an under the radar brute and they are looking quite good value now.

Between my late wife and myself, we have had......

1980....1975 model Triumph 1500TC (5 years) never passed an MOT  first time but never stopped working.

1985....1980 model Talbot Horizon Ultra (2 years) rubbish, worse car I ever had.

1987....1985 model Maestro 1.6 HLS (7 years) good roomy car at the time.

1991....1990 model MG Montego 2.0i (5 years) really liked this car, would have kept longer but was written off by an old bloke driving into me!

1994....1993 model Rover 200SLi (2 years) My wifes first purpose bought car.

1996....1989 model Rover 200EX (1 year) inherited from Dad....good enough car but ugly.

1996....new model Rover 200Si (7 years) wifes first new car.

1997....1996 model Rover 400SLi (3 years) Good car.

2000....new model VW Bora 2.0 SE (10 years) my first new car...should have kept longer!

2003....new model VW Beetle 1.8T (coming up 13 years and counting) wifes last new car...still brilliant! and still only 54000 miles and never failed an MOT (yet!) touch wood.

2010....2008 model BMW 118 SE (2 years) had to sell due to moving.

2013....2013 model Mazda 3 1.6 Venture (2 years) pre reg car....should have kept!

2015....2015 model BMW M135i (6 months) 6 weeks old when I got this on impulse...amazing engine but rarely used.

2016....As and when Superb 280 L&K Estate....for occasional drives out.

That's my history, boring to some, but quite enjoyable remembering all that lot.

I've had 2 V8 XJ's but I must say I've long had a fancy for a V8 S Type.

I'm sure whatever you settle for it'll be a lot-a-fun.

Good luck in your search.

I forgot about my Bora! 2002 1.4L Comfortline in Silver, had the softest seat material I've ever seen in a car, unlike the hard upholstery they put in cars these days. Great car but needed a bigger engine!

I once drove a Talbot (Chrysler?) Sunbeam and I must say that sticks in the memory as the worst car I have ever driven, I had to take the M2 to Chatham with it and it was a bit windy, good job it was quiet as it took up all three lanes of the motoway as it weaved about! The stuff of nightmares!!

Wow! That would have been some machine, unfortunately my insurance company would have hung up on me if I asked them to cover me on one of them as I was in my early twenties then (:-( My first insurance premium was £IR 3,500 for 3rd party fire & theft on a 1.0l Polo a year & a half earlier!

Currently drive a Peugeot 508 SW. Its been a cracking car to be honest. The engine does not quite have the poke of a VW group diesel but its much quieter. I rarely keep my cars for more than a couple of years but this is just coming up 4 years old! A record for me. Its solid, well put together and make a L & K Superb look sparse on kit, all for little money too.

However...........I miss my old DSG though so coming back to Skoda with a SE L Superb on order

I can see you like big cars...as I do too.

The Vauxhall Senator was a very under rated car I thought.

Hope you dont wait too long for your 280.

I remember those days as well. I paid £3.5k as well on a 1.2 Fiat Brava when I was 21!! One of the benefits of getting a bit older I suppose!

Big cars, indeed - I imagine I will be one of the few downsizing (technically) to the Superb.

The Senator was a very good car. I remember the cabin being a little soulless after the Lancia, but then, stuff actually worked!
