Oil Suction Pump. £12.99 From Lidl

"Operates via 12V car battery for clean and effortless changing of engine oil and diesel"

I still think there's less effort involved with releasing the sump plug. Also it'll be cleaner than a hose full of oil.

Also most engines these days have plastic covers over the camshafts. There's little chance of getting a hose all the way into the sump from the filler cap.

You normally use them via the dipstick, not a lot of chance of doing it via the filler on a car.

I can see the arguement either way, personally I prefer to drop it out the sump plug as I have the car up in the air to check it over when I do the oil change anyway.

I bought one of these last year, works really well for pumping gearbox oil on the refill. Up until then, I was using a funnel and piece of hose pipe, this is less messy and gives more control.

Also worked well priming the daughters p.a.s lines on her Fiesta when we changed a pipe.

I would be very frightened of something falling off the end of the hosepipe, from what I saw from the Lidl advert, there are bits on the end of the pipe

They are just coil weights and a restricter nozzle, you can remove them in 2 seconds and end up with just the basic pipe.

Well that's a treat might get one

Thanks for the heads up mate. I might be interested in the wet & dry vacuum cleaner which seems like good value for the money. Does anyone know what they're like?

The cleaner is very good. Lightweight and sturdy. You can fit the hose to the outlet instead to get a powerful blower too.

Thanks for that. I think I'll pay them a visit on Monday. Cheers.

I also bought the hoover that you mention at the same time as the pump last year. I have worked it to death in the last 6 months and it just keeps coming back for more.

It is basic and does not have any fancy features of the likes of Karcher ect, but at the price it is hard to beat. I even hoovered up paint scrapings after I burnt it off the garage woodwork from the driveway and it did not even blink.

And as it has already been mentioned, the blow function is useful too.

That looks handy might have to get one of them!

Right!!

I got one!!

Looks really good!

Gonna try it tomorrow and see how well it slurps up the oil :)

I got one today as well and will try it out in SWMBO's Fabia on Thursday.

Will also use it to pump out a central heating radiator befor removing it from the wall. Saves draining the whole system at this time of year...

WELL I have just finishing using this and it's 2 massive thumbs up from me!!

SO much easier!!

I ran engine up to temp

Plugged in the pump via a fully charged spare battery I had in shed

Popped the pipe in to the dip stick hole

And turn it on!!!

Slurped up the dirty oil no dramas!!

I also ran about 1/2 litre of new clean oil while sucking the old stuff though also

Replaced with fresh oil took about 20mins in total

Didn't even get my hands mucky!!

Well worth £12!!!

I presume you turned the engine off between stage 1 and stage 2...

Totally did

Just wondering ! :)

Used mine the other day on SWMBO's Mk1 1.4 mpi Fabia and it did a good job of sucking the oil out without any mess - but looking in the can suggested it had left about 1 litre of oil in the engine!

No amount of wiggling the tube around in the dip stick pipe could get the last of it out so had to open the sump plug anyway.

At least there was less pressure behind the oil coming out that way which meant it went into my oil can with less mess! And there was still oil in the filter to contend with.

Not sure it was a brilliant buy, but it did help. Will have a go on my Yeti when that needs doing to see if it any better.

PS: I didn't use it to pump water out of a household radiator as the instructions said not to pump water (not enough lubrication on the pump to keep it cool).

These are due back in Lidl on 21 September. I got one a few years back to pump DSG oil into the gearbox and it works great.

Here is the link.

Never mind that, pipe wrenches at a decent price

I don't know about Lidyl, but Aldi did the bulb sets a bit of time back. Worth checking to see packet hasn't been opened etc. ( and something that takes little scrote fancy gone missing)

Bought this pump last year for our cars and worth the money for those who do frequent oil changes.

Personally- I'm like Steve, except that it's SIL that does it for me. I'd  do it, but I'd need helpers to get back up. And with car up in the air- I get more oil out than with car on level, then once filter is out- add a half litre down the filter hole to get out any remaining dirty oil. It might seem a waste of oil, but it gets rid of any rubbish remaining.
