Dash Cam radio interference

Featured Replies

I have just purchased a Nextbase 202 dashcam and positioned it under the patterned section near the top of the windscreen. I have found that it interferes with the FM radio and causes reception problems. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

is it hard wired or through the cigarette lighter

i have the nextbase 302 and fitted in the same location but its hardwired and i have no interference

on a different note my company van that i use if i plug anything in the cigarette lighter i get hissing on the radio

hard wiring is easy if you want me to talk you through it

No it plugs into the cigarette lighter. I am in two minds about having the dashcam as a permanent fixture. It only sees what I see out of the windscreen and the two occasions it would have been useful were near misses on a roundabout which was out of vision. Also when I park I remove the dashcam from the windscreen to avoid a broken window and theft

Top tip on mine I covered the next base white writing and it sits behind the mirror so it's quite discreet

It's not switched on permanently

And the camera can be removed after each use if you so wish

I had tht problem when I had a roomster. I think it was because the cam was close to the windscreen antenna that ran down the middle only 2 inches away. Tried fitting a ferrite ring to the supply cable, it did not help. My yeti has antenna at the rear so no problem now.

There is a Nextbase hard wired kit available for under £12 on ebay. I also have the 202 model and used this kit. It took less than 15 minutes to fit as it literally plugs in. Plenty of info and photos on the location of the fuse to 'piggy back' from on Briskoda.

Nextbase camera had to be exchanged as the internal battery would not charge. Exchanged it for a ProofCam same price but it is smaller and 1080p HD. Does not affect radio and picture is clearer. It uses the same software as Nextbase though

Off at a slight tangent here, I recently had a London Colour HID headlights kit fitted; when the headlights are in use, radio output is a bit fuzzy; headlights off, clear reception.

Thoughts/advice, anyone?

And that reminds me, must get VCDS re-coding done for the changed lights, apparently can blow the wiper motor if not altered, no idea why???!!!

Noise from the ballasts :)

Maybe a more expensive set of ballasts?

AFAIK it can blow a lot more than a wiper motor, think I have read it can take out one of the control modules, which is expensive. May be year dependant though?

Not read about blowing modules

I have hid on mine so any info appreciated

I bought a Annke x8 Dashcam recently and this interferes with the cars radio alot, try listening to LBC or Heart in central London and I can always hear static noise.

I use the cigarette lighter for the power supply.
