Comedy thread this - great advert for lots of uninformed comments based on blind devotion to your own car. Until someone actually tests them both together in a variety of formats (i.e. not just official performance stats) then we'll never know how they compare. They are very different cars and making comments based on "feel", the "old 2.0 in the Golf", "my speedo said this" etc is all crap until you test them together on roads & tracks etc.

Anyway carry on the banter as i've had few beers and am up for a "discussion" :D:rofl: ... and for a starter I have always felt that TDs always feel faster but that has not always translated into actuality :P

Thats because of the "torque surge" I believe.

This thread is killing me :hilarius: I'm trading my vRS in for the quicker 2.0l Fabia

the "old 2.0 in the Golf",

I was being polite when I talked abou my old golf:D Time for hard talk then;)

My Golf GTI was the most underpowered overrated bag of spanners I have had.It was rock solid though but should have been badged" 2.0GL for the more discerning slow driver"

I loved it but thats it .I have a clouded view of the 2.0 8v.I was heartbroken realising my GTI drove like it dragged a ships anchor.

Looked smashing shiney :D though

so VW tests all there cars differently ???

why would they test the TDI different to the 2.0l ?

or does VW just make up there Stats and not do them under the same test conditions ???

Misunderstanding my point - I meant not just straight line stats, but actual performance on roads & tracks etc. I know there's loads of BS on this sort of thing but with the difference in weight of engine lumps its something that has to be considered :) BTW - I don't own either and have only had a brief test drive in the Fab RS and never driven a Fab 2.0L so I have no axe to grind .... nor any useful knowledge either :( :P

OK, just another point, the 2.0 can hit 60 in second, yet the 130PD is well into 3rd, hence it had to "waste time" with an extra gear change, and it is still quicker to 60. :rubchin:

And Mil, I've drive 2 2.0 Fabias, the Golf GTI 2.0 (my grandads car), and they aren't slow, but quicker than a vRS Fabia... Get real. Maybe 0-10mph would be quicker though!

As entertaining as this thread is, its really boring me. Besides, any Fabia vRS owner who wishes to have a little more power, pops of to a tuning shop of their choice and pays a few hundred quid, and WHAY! A realistic 160bhp, possible 180bhp, and wheres the 2.0 now? mwah ha ha ha! :P

And I'm really not biassed towards my car, or the vRS in anyway, but on paper, and reality, the 2.0 hasn't got a chance. For sure, it may be able to carry a bit more speed into a corner, but the power difference more than makes up for it.

I reckon the PD100 is quicker than the 2.0. ;)

Where can we get hold of a 2.0 to do some timed runs?

the vRS would be quicker 0-10 becuase of the higher torque at lower revs, and a heavy engine over the driven wheels to help the wheels get traction

also I think the fabia vRS could be quicker 0-30 than the Octy VRS but thats still to be tested

Whatever Tom - you obviously thinks the Fab RS is the ducks ... but you haven't tested them objectively together on various terrains hence you are as ignorant as me :P :D The Fab RS is a good car but its not perfect.

Re: modding its obvious the RS is the better option but thats not what the original point was :) ... AFAIK  :D

At a tuning shop spending a few hundred quid getting a supercharger fitted? :rubchin:

Rob.

AFAIK - As Far As I Know.

Where can I get a supercharger fitted for a few hunderd quid?

And Stu, I appreciate the Fabia vRS for what its good at, but it sure as hell isn't the best performance hot hatch on the market, but atleast it is a hot hatch (well, warm anyway). The 2.0 is not, its is an old mans engine. :P

I have tested the 2.0, and found it to be capable. But NOT as quick as the PD130, nowhere near as quick.

Sorry for bringing up tuning possibilities, totally off topic, I apologise :o

And I'm not arrogant either, thanks.

Does anyone have a 2.0 Fabia they are happy to either drag against a standard Fabia vRS (mine), or indeed one timing gear can be added to? BEcause this really is tedious... Its not like we are comparing cars which are anywhere near as similar... Lets dicuss the 330 and the 330d...

1.6 Lupo GTI would creme them both

Various GTI tuning places...admittedly the pricing was a rhetorical device, I was pointing out that what you give to one you can give to the other...so bringing tuning into it is just not helping the thorough pointlessness.... ;)

Go, go pocket rocket

They arent that quick actually... 0-60 is about 7.6 which is good, but then according to a what car test, they top out at 116. Not surprising really either - it has very poor aerodynamics and is only 125 bhp. That particular engine is not one of VW's best either.

this 2 litre stuff is not very nice!....im buying one of these lol. i feel really chuffed i dont think the 2.0 is gonna kick the furbys ***. but it will be pritty nice for me considering all my mates own 1.2's and 1.4's etc... the 2.0 feels (from my test drive) really smooth and easy to drive its torqy - nice top end too. i will have to do a proper write up about it when i get it on friday. i just think some people can make a nicer comment. lol make me feel a little more happy with my purchase than haveing loads of us briskoda members bad mouthing something i've just bought. as my thread got locked! i've had to say it here!

fellow briskoda member here dont forget!:D

ok nice comments... elegance spec is great u'll love it and having new car too.

..... but get ur 1.4 100bhp back won't be as sluggish as 2.0 or drink as much fuel or be as higher insurance and at only 15bhp less u wont notice the difference as 2.0 makes up the wight difference in power.

the old 2.0 has always been VAGs dodgy engine like the 1.4 8v bad in any model its in... bad in the golf, bad in octy bad in bora and bad in passat.... i wont say fabia as iv not been in a fabia 2.0 yet.... could be good be right mix in size and engine there, who knows

Anyway anythings better than 12volt!!

why did they stick it in a gti then???! i dont get it! :(

Because it's a nice torquey engine with a healthy amount of power :D

Hi Chris,

Looks like we have plenty in common, my red vrs is also driven by learners most of the time. U had any problems? I've hit 36k miles, had a few niggles inc mirrors & windows packed up today, again!!!

Mart

*phew* glad this one came up, was thinking this last week and I just couldnt sleep, cheers guys

Hi Mart

I have covered 8500 miles thus far and have had a couple of really minor niggles. The handbrake lever cover came loose, the clutch pedal cover lost two of its rubber protrusions and the drivers door electric window switch cover panel sits about 1/8 inch above flush at its rear edge. All fixed under warranty. Other than that, it is so far proving to be excellent.

Out of interest, what are you paying for servicing? Hayes in Little Clacton want £160 for a 10,000 service:eek:
