Columbus and SATA SSD?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Question: is Columbus part no 3T0035680E h/w H70, s/w 4120 equipped or capable of running on SATA SSD hdd? I have seen datailed and pictured manual on how to replace hdd, but it was old IDE unit - haven't seen anything that would suggest it runs on SATA. Have spare 128GB SSD and wouldn't had any objections to put it i there :)

Regards

Mine is circa 2013 and it still had a PATA unit. I tried a 128GB but it wouldn't work (the boot disc wouldn't partition it), so I guess PATA <128GB.

As said above, the Columbus uses PATA technology so your SATA drive won't physically fit.

Did you create a personalised partition disc for installing the firmware? Instructions are on the Internet.

I remember editing text files and stuff and burning them.  In the end it doesn't matter, I use spotify over A2DP now so don't really use the HDD in the columbus, although faster startup would be nice.

Hi,

Thanks for all info..

I have an SSD in my Columbus, and startup is still terribly slow, especially compared to my old Amundsen+.

Is yours an original SSD model or is it a standard one with a replacement SSD dropped in?

It's an original SSD.

Well, from dead cold to full function should be about a minute. It should start playing music within about 8 seconds though, and the rest of the time is spent loading all the sat nav and system stuff.

Yeah the main annoying bit is the amount of time from dead it takes to display the rear view camera.  I can usually complete the reversing maneuver by the time it's got the picture up.

There a thread on here about start up times with some adamant that their start up time is 'instant' and the reversing display (not RVC specifically, but sensor display) comes on immediately from cold and others, myself included, saying theirs takes 20-30 seconds to display.

I posited that factory fitted Columbus units, SSD OR HDD, came on 'instantly' and retrofitted ones took longer which was confirmed by the very small umber of people who added their findings.

However, I can think of no logical reason why this should be the case...

Nope mine is factory fit (the RVC is not of course).  It seems to have two levels of sleep, a sleep and an off.  IF the car is restarted within a couple of hours of being shut down it's pretty much immediate.  Longer than that, and it "welcome to skoda"'s for a while.  It was the same when I retrofitted an RNS-510 to my A5 Jetta although didn't have an RVC in that one.
