Check Oil Level

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a superb 1.8tsi auto and the check oil level came on the sis display yesterday. I topped up the oil, which was a tad low, but the warning is still coming on. I've tried google, but can't find anything specific to the superb.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Faulty sensor?

Fault sorted now, after scouring the forums, it turns out it was a mucky bonnet catch. Cleaned it up and sorted. Moral of the story......check oil more often.

Thanks for the reply

Ok I am going to ask. How does a mucky bonnet catch coincide with top the oil up? :dull:

I know the Superb 1 reset the oil  light when it recognised the bonnet catch was released due to micro swich in catch

never knew the II had this feature :nerd:

Once it's detected a low oil incident the level light will not go off until it detects that you have done something about it - ie lift the bonnet up to top-up.  If not the light would be turning off and on again as the level does vary whilst running.

I remember having a car in the past that had an oil level gauge - was really useful

Faulty bonnet catch can also stop your alarm setting

Yeh, i read that the bonnet sensor has to be activated, so that the car knows you've opened the bonnet to check the oil. I never thought that it would affect the alarm as well, food for thought.

I popped the bonnet on my car and realised it hadn't registered on the SIS as being open, so i cleaned it up a bit and hey presto, fault cleared.

thanks again for your input, greatly appreciated and hope this can help someone else

I have the same problem on my Superb 1 1.9TDI. I have given the catch a good clean and even disconnected the microswitch at a connector and shorted the two poles for at least a minute but to no avail. Does it have to be reset by VCDS? I wouldn't have thought so.

I'm next in line who faced this issue (after the need to top up the oil - informed by the message on the instrument panel screen) ... removed the switch in question from the front grille, tested it on the multi-meter, the micro-switch doesn't close the circuit ... I've managed to reset (open) the bonnet by placing a metal paper clip in the bonnet switch connector (to clear the oil level error), and now I'm debugging the switch ... if I won't manage to repair it (flush it or dry it, probably some debris or dust got inside), I'll have to obtain one that is working ... the part no. is 3T0 953 236 (expect some photos later on)

I've ordered a used switch (from an Audi Q7), because the issue can't be easily fixed (and that I can expect several hassle-free months before the switch once again looses its function) ... the connection within the plastic is the issue, can't be easily solved without destroying a piece of plastic (which can introduce moisture or dust where they shouldn't be allowed) ... the photos are sequential, to give you some idea what to expect if you'll need to do this yourself (and hope you won't)

Just put a 3v0 across the contacts to earth (this is a joke that bridge rec should understand)

The Audi's cable is not  a direct solution, because the female connector is different (larger, probably because the Q7 is larger than the Superb, I don't know their logic) ... with some soldering, I've managed to replace the Superb's connector to the Q7's cable, and it works (the microswitch and its base are identical),, the Q7's cable is slightly longer, so I've cut the excess wire before soldering ... on the photo below: original Superb cable on the left, on the right the original Audi Q7's cable
