Paint Protection

Featured Replies

I am soon to get a 150 DSG L&K in cheap blue and have read here about paint protection systems.

I am looking to keep the car until the MOT man puts on a black cap and sends it to the scrapyard so I thought I would drop an email to a local company.

This was their reply

We offer the gTechniq Paint Protection system as part of our work as Accredited Detailers for their Network. This system is the market leader at the moment and far superior to anything that dealers have to offer. We can do 2 levels, both guaranteed.

5 yr Crystal Serum Light - £450+vat
7 yr Crystal Serum Black - £650+vat

Both packages include a total surface protection inside and out of the vehicle, including all interior leather, fabrics and plastics, as well as wheels and glass on the exterior.

We require the cars for a 2 day booking to apply and fully cure the coatings.

As there are many people more knowledgeable than me on this forum, could I ask

Is this as good as they say ?

Is it a reasonable price ?

Which should I go for ?

What other treatments should I consider instead of this ?

I'll move this to the Styling section as you'll get some interesting replies there.

GTechniq is one of the best paint protection systems on the market. I use a number of their products including C2v3.

I know of at least 2 Superb owners who've had Crystal Serum applied professionally.

I would certainly recommend them.

Bear in mind there may need some correction work required to your paintwork  (mine was just 2 weeks old when the Crystal Serum was applied and yet it had a couple of areas that needed correcting)

I am more than happy with the end results, just make sure whoever applies it comes highly recommended, because the only way to remove it is to wet flat it off!

Crystal Serum is right up there bud!

So would people say the autoglym protection through the dealer is not a good idea?

correct.  the general feeling is dealers rarely do the required prep to apply it well, and it isn;t any more than a decent wax, where as the gtechniq stuff is a ceramic coating, much more long lasting

As the others say, take it to a proper detailer who's work is recommended by others.

Our local guy takes 4 days to do the full GTechniq treatment on a new car and it costs £500+, but they do it properly.

I've never used the Gtechniq stuff but last weekend I had a 1 series back after about 9 months of menzerna powerlock sealant (after a full machine polish) - I was pleasantly surprised how the paint still felt properly smooth after that amount of time so all I did was give it a good cleanse and another coat of powerlock.  There are cheaper options which appear to have very durable properties.

I'm having Gen3 Glasscoat ceramic sealant applied to my car after I pick it up, told it will take a day, this includes prep and correction. 5 year guarantee cost £300 from a local detailing place.

Have a go at it yourself and save yourself some money would be my recommendation.

You can learn a lot during the process plus get extra satisfaction knowing you did it yourself.

Woooo hold on. This is a ceramic style coating. Should only be applied by trained professionals after a full decon and correction (if needed)

If going to do it yourself a good sealant like FK1000P is a start

Good point

Crystal serum light is now available and can be purchased & applied by normal customer. The standard crystal serum is authorised detailer only.

However, if you haven't applied a ceramic before I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself straight off. Although CSL will machine off, it could be a pain for you if applied wrong.

Brand new car, me personally would go CS BLACK which is normal Crystal Serum with EXO. The hard paint protection then EXO for oodles of gloss & let an authorised detailer do it.

Artdeshine from poland and israel?

It comes from poland i bought mine from a detailer in Israel . It was part used and i only paid 19 to my door. Sorry for confusion, look on their site they have some very good products.

Matt@obsidiandetailing is the Artdeshine dealer for the uk, why not just get it off him?

And artdeshine isn't made in Poland.

Just seems a strange way to get it.

I just drive up and buy it.

Well i stand corrected only what i was told. still a cracking product all the same.

Yes it is, and as long as you have got the application sorted for it, that will last a long time on your wheels.

Well done for finding a bargin from far far away!!!!

Of course if you like that artdeshine, why not drop matt an email or PM on DW and see what else he does that you might like.

I really like the QD for instance.

Yes must say been watching some of his videos, he does some awesome work love the light board hes done.

Does anyone know of Detailers in the Newcastle upon Tyne area they would recomend

We offer paint correction and sealants/coatings however we try not to bull customers up as most do, the prices at the top of this thread are about right but as to the longivaty of the products I have to diss agree with, we always try to explain to our customers that your coatings will only last as long as you take care of them, I.e if you had the 7yr applied but took your car to hand car washes then you'll find it's life span half due to chemicals used, you'll oonly get the best out of your coating if you take care of it correctly, I.e using the correct shampoos, cleaning products

So think carefully about which coating you want or even ask the detailers for product advice for looking after your coating, it's realy not as easy as having a coating applied then your car being protected for the next however many years,

Alternatively you çould invest in a quality wax and cleaning products and simply keep upto it your self
