Is this fubar'd?

Featured Replies

Just noticed this earlier today on the passenger side rear of the Mrs' vRS.... I'm assuming it's fubar'd but is it just a cover or something more? Or can it be resecured etc???

Mine has been the same for the last 5 years - Very common - Don't worry.

Do you just resecure it then or do you leave it like that? Looks like the rubber has perished?

Its just the bumpstop, not an M.O.T failiure and cheap to buy....just a bit of an arse to fit!! There were links somewhere in here of how to do it somewhere???

Superglue works.

I just happen to have bought some gorilla glue for something else today. :)

What needs to be so special about the material these bump stops are made from that as soon as they see the light of day they are off, first quickly changing colour (to blend in) then desperately biodegrade into something else?

Apparently you can force the plastic cover over the remaining bottom part of the bump stop. It will make the reach of cover a bit shorter but it doesn't really matter.

You've got half a ton of mud under that arch!! :D

Not got a hose pipe?

They aren't expensive to buy. They are also designed as spring assisters so do compress prior to the shock bottoming out. So making them shorter changes the design intent.

Well I thought "it is a long time since I've seen a car with that much mud under the arches!"  - so yes I agree with you there.

My (old school) VW main dealer's parts place calls them "salt and peppers" - maybe now that they have been rehoused in an elegant(?) new place, that description will have been dropped! Luckily some of the old gang are still there, so maybe not.

Superglued it back up as a temp fix till the car next goes in for some work done to it. Unless it drops down again beforehand.

And... I do indeed have a hosepipe which connects to my rather expensive Nilfisk pressure washer. I just lost the anally retentive urge to go overboard when cleaning the mrs' over eleven year old daily driver that is covered in dings and marks. ;)

My car though is a different matter. :)

Too bloody right. :D

Since my name is being taken in vain here, I would like to point out that I replaced mine last year when I got the car thank you very much :P
