Retrofitting

Featured Replies

Greetings all, I'm seriously considering a 1.9tdi Roomster but have noticed that those in my price range have crap instrumentation and usually no cruise.

If I buy a poverty spec Roomster, what is retrofittable? I have full VCDS.

Cruise control certainly is.

Both are possible

Thanks chaps ... MFSW? Dipping mirror, rain sensor wipers?

By the look of it RCD/RNS units fit?

Same dash as MK2 Fabia so yeah Amundsen and Columbus are straight fit.

MFSW = Yes

Dipping mirror & rain sensor wipers = ? I have retrofitted them to a Polo 6R but they were never available on the Fabia 2 and Romster

RNS / RCD = Yes, Columbus, Amundsen and Bolero (check the shape of the one you are buying that it will fit)

Roof rails if you're brave with  a drill.  I haven't seen a roofrack that will fit Roomster without rails..

You will also need to check that your 1.9tdi Roomster has the Canbus capability you need for the retrofitting you're planning.

AFAIU you need 2.0. My 2008 roomster only has 1.6 presenting numerous compatability issues.

I don't profess to be an expert though....

Makes sense. 2010 saw the same upgrades for Roomster as Fabia, so they went across to the BCM and higher level CAN.

Thanks all, looks like it'll be cruise, MFSW and instrument cluster upgrade - when I eventually manage to sell my Touran

So not all Roomsters have canbus? Interesting, does that have an effect on which stereo you can fit? I know Golf mk5, Touran platform cars need at least a canbus with suffix L to run RNS510 without the battery draining overnight.

I had issues with functionality with an RCD310 DAB and an Amundsen+. Both units would power up, and function for radio, USB and Nav but couldn't use Bluetooth function and both switched themselves off every 30mins.

I've since installed a Kenwood DNX520VBT and although it's circa 10yrs old everything works as it should.

Sorry, what is MFSW? And is there a way I can see/display engine coolant temperature on my Roomster?

Previous Mk1 Fabia 1.4tdi had separate temperature gauge, very useful for identifying thermostat failure!Would like this even if could become one of the toggle-through stalk functions, normally keep it on journey average MPG.

This sounds like canbus to me

Multifunction steering wheel

And not with the standard cluster (the green one). The maxidot has a coolant gauge and can also display oil temp.

Things I would like to add are

Bluetooth to go with my rcd510 dab

Mfsw (is this possible)/

Maxidot

Things I've added

Rcd510dab

W8 interior light

Hid

Cruise control (major pita to fit)

I've put a deposit on a Scout 2, 2007.

Maxidot, climate control, fog lights fitted but no cruise control.

Does anyone know if the canbus module is upgradable as per Octavia/Golf/Touran ?

MFSW = Yes

Eddie, my car will have Maxidot, and RNS510 - which MFSW will fit?

I'll admit to being a lazy sod, I've not researched anything yet.  Cough !

  • 2 months later...

A question asked elsewhere but with no luck. I have 58 plate roomy which I love to bits but I dislike not having mfsw, I have just bought an octy2 mfsw and when I came to do a swap the wire harness is different, that in itself isn't an issue (  ) I don't think or is it???? can anyone tell me what I need to do please and does it involve coding? if so what unit do I need to buy to be able to do this myself.

Any answers or suggestions (not rude ones) would be very much appreciated.

Andy.

I think you're going to struggle, you are crossing platforms from Golf mk5 to Polo.

The Octavia is canbus 2.0, the Roomster is 1.6.

Hi b1ackb1rd, can you please explain what the actually means please, It would appear that I am being a bit thick. If this is not possible is there a mfsw that will work in my roomy? I find this can bus stuff confusing. I used to be an auto electrician many many moons ago and life was reasonably simple back then...... :|

Andy, the Octavia is based upon the Golf mk5, the Roomster is essentially Polo so has different controlling electrics (canbus), the MFSW requires a highline steering module and matching slip ring and then some VCDS coding to work - I have never come across different spec steering modules in my research to fit a MFSW to a Roomster.

There is a limited function MFSW on Fabia 2 models, budget has not yet allowed me to play with one to know what functions it actually does ... but I honestly believe you'll get more joy fitting this than the Octavia version.

Many thanks b1ackb1rd, that clears that up I will look out for a Fabia2 model mfsw.

Andy, you will need to do some vcds coding - this will also tell you what body control module you have - I believe for MFSW you need a mid or high version.

I've not gone into this far enough to identify what the relevant part numbers are yet (perhaps this info is on the fabia 2 pages?) - but the vcds scan will certainly tell you what your car has fitted.

A Roomster 3 won't have a body control module. The combined BCM was introduced for 10MY. Previous to this they were fitted with a separate central electrics control module (address word 09) and convenience control module (as per MK1 Fabia).
