Alarm sounds when the ignition is on. Tried various things, still no luck. How can I disable it?

Featured Replies

I have a 2001 Fabia 1.4 MPi Comfort.  I'm pretty sure the alarm is factory-fitted.  I've had it for just under 3 years, and until now I've never heard the alarm.  Even if I tried sitting inside and locking it form the outside through the window, nothing would happen.

However, the alarm is now sounding when it shouldn't.  Earlier, it was sounding whenever I open a door.  When I tried it a moment ago, it wasn't sounding when I open a door, but would sound when I turn the ignition switch to the ON position, then pause for a few seconds and then sound again, both when I've just started the engine and when I haven't.

The red LED on the border of the door locking pin flashes when my car is locked, and goes out when it's unlocked.  Nonetheless, clearly the alarm isn't being properly disarmed.

I shall point out that there has been some work done on the car recently.  The passenger door has been disconnected from the central locking system, as problems were found with it, but I don't know if that would have any impact.  Then to cut a long story short, I had a breakdown and a new alternator was fitted.  But when we moved the car out of the garage afterwards, the alarm didn't sound at all.

However, today, I am in the situation I described above - it is not sounding when a door is opened, but is sounding when the ignition/engine is turned on.

I've seen a few suggestions online:
- Use the remote control key to disarm the alarm.  However, my model doesn't have a remote control key.
- Spray WD40 on the door catches.  Made no difference.
- Remove fuse 60.  However, there's already no fuse in slot 60.

I'm at my dad's at the moment, and am supposed to be going back to my regular home tomorrow (a 3-hour journey).  I can't have the alarm sounding all the time as I'm driving the car!

It would be nice if there were a way to disable the alarm completely, at least as a temporary measure before I can get it fixed.  But I've searched online and couldn't find anything helpful.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

To clarify further, the problem of the alarm sounding when a door is opened was happening between recharging the flat battery and the alternator being changed.  Now that the new alternator is in, it's sounding whenever the ignition is on.  It sounds for 30 seconds, stops, and then about 2 seconds later it sounds again, even when it's been driven around.

We thought we'd found a possible solution when we were referred to a second fuse box on top of the battery.  We found three fuses there, but removing them made no difference.

It's odd that there is no fuse in slot 60 as that is the fuse for the alarm horn. However I think the alarm horn unit has internal rechargeable batteries which probably explains it.

Apparently the alarm horn is situated between the fuel tank and rear axle beam.

Unplug the siren, it's probably going off as the internal batteries are kaput.
