6 Bleedin' Days!

Recommended Posts

That's all its taken for one of Surrey's "Yummy Mummy's" in her bleedin' great Volvo Chelsea Tractor to cause damage.

Just left home on the main road and there she is bowling along kids in the back, jabbering away on her mobile (NOT HANDSFREE) and she's not looking where she's going on the narrowest part of the road and coming straight towards me and I'm thinking OH **** and has to swerve not only mounting the pavement hard, but narrowly missing a wall.

One wheel damaged and the tyre side wall split, not quite to the casing but probably damaged enough to warrant a new tyre as I don't trust it that much for any sort of high speed driving. Luckily I don't have any fast driving to do for the next few weeks, so it should be OK (Tyre place has said it will be OK for a while.)

I've taken the car to a couple of diamond cut alloy wheel specialists and they've said that whilst they can do the graunch on the rim, they doubt that they can repair all around the edge of the hole (is that the right term?) where you can see the caliper and disc through, so one new wheel required and now ordered.

So be warned if you happen to be in Surrey, around the Guildford/Shere/Cranleigh area and see a sand/gold coloured Volvo XC60 coming towards you, get the hell out of the way, because if she's behind the wheel, she won't give a sh17 and she won't slow down or stop.

To say that I'm incandescent with rage is an understatement. :swear:  :@

I've managed to get a replacement wheel from Ebay £220 from Horton Skoda, I'm looking for a 225/35/19 88Y Pirelli P-Zero now to replace that one that's damaged, best price I can find is about £120 + fitting.

And this is on top of me treading on my Samsung Tablet and completely wrecking it, that's another £375 that I've just had to fork out, although that's my own fault!  :wall:

Not good mate, not good.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Few extra days overtime on the 456s to pay for it!!

How's things anyway?

Oh and we all do silly things. I've sat on my glasses more than once!

Why aren't you going through insurance? It always amazes me people bypassing it. If she's liable, claim off her

It will be a non fault claim, and your policy really want go up that much if all done properly. She needs to be taught a lesson. The police won't do anything with it

Your insurance company will load up your next premium even if they agree you don't lose your no claims. You have to divulge any claims to other insurance companies whether your fault or not. For 350 quid it isn't worth it.

Remember he doesn't seem to have other woman's details. It would take ages to get your insurance company to agree to cover this as a no fault claim.

How can she'd long gone and by the time I stopped up the road to check the car and found the damage, she could be either on one of several differing routes and I never got the reg, I was just too concerned in self preservation!

I'm not going through insurance as it will cost me almost as much in excesses, plus it'll bump up my premium in June!

I've had 2 events in the last few years where a third party was at fault, admitted liability and I didn't see a hint of policy increase. Actuaries aren't dim.

I would agree if he doesn't have her details, the vehicles didn't collide and no admission of liability at all, there's very little point in claiming though. Although even if they didn't touch, if she didn't stop, technically that's leaving the scene without providing details....

It wasn't clear that he didn't get her registration plate or any sort of detail.

If he had her details yes, but without them your premiums will be bumped up

Reminds me, I need to get the dash cam fitted into my new car. Surely a video of said bint blaring into her phone and forcing you off the road would be grounds for a claim even without actual contact.

Sorry to hear your bad news though :(

I'm investigating dash cams now - trouble is most of them either don't sit well behind rear view mirror or take up more windscreen space

There's plenty if choice, I'm sure you'll find something that works, nothing to say it has to go behind the mirror, it could sit right across in the former of the passenger side if you wanted

I had a BlackVue DR400 that sat nicely behind the rear view mirror in the VRS. It was not obtrusive at all but I can see what you mean with some of the others around. The 400 will now be going into our Fabia and I should have a new BlackVue DR650 arriving in the post this morning for the R. The 650 is currently a £200 outlay and I have an auto electrician sorted for a full (hard wired) install costing another £30/40. In the above case it would certainly have captured the registration number of the offending car, it would have been clear to see that she took no evading action i.e. slowed down and quality would probably have been adequate to show she was using a phone, especially once she was on top of you. Certainly would help with an insurance claim and possibly interest the police as well.

To be honest, they are almost a must have in today's society, even if only to protect yourself. Quality is pretty good provided you get a good HD version.

Wouldn't go anywhere without my Möbius switched on. Best £69 ever spent. Size of a matchbox & fits nicely behind mirror. With her VRM put about your mates no doubt someone would know her. A knock on her front door & show her the footage might have been enough for her to cough up for the damage rather than "plod" possibly seeing it.

Excellent - extortion and/or lynching!

As quite a few have now said... dash cam!

I have them in every car I own and every car I've previously owned for the past 6 years and wouldn't drive without them.

Mine are actually Sanyo VPC-SH1 full HD video cameras like the ones you take the cheesy holiday or family Christmas videos on (but are pretty small and slimline) on Delkin Fat Gecko mounts.

I prefer these types of cameras as I've got up to a 6-9 hour continuous recording ability with a good sized memory card (depending on quality chosen, but even the lowest being HD just at a lower frame rate) and no low light or sun glare issues thanks to the quality lens filters, plus full HQ audio, so they're superb for catching the car park pr&ts (just always make sure you reverse into the spot and you'll always catch the culprits).

Catch one b&st&rd with these things and they'll pay for themselves 5-10 times over at least.

I've had two incidents, one where someone flung a door open into my vRS (while I was actually in the vicinity and saw them do it from a distance) but when questioned played dumb and denied it but very quickly changed their mind when the camera was pointed out (footage of them pulling into the spot next to me followed shortly after by the sound of their door hitting my car followed by a brief low level expletive), and another when a not-so-yummy mummy with her mindset obviously on her failed medical experiments in the back of the half-scale London bus her husband had mistakenly bought her thinking she'd be able to drive it, came round a corner some 12-15 inches over the white line, forcing my pristine condition 12 month old Audi Q7 S-Line into the kerb... and the 21" diamond cut OEM wheels on those things are £1125 a piece excluding tax + £325-375 a tyre... so her insurance took a hit for that one.

The other benefit of a dash cam is for when you leave your car with the dealer for it's annual service... and that's nearly always priceless footage... especially when the blissfully unaware 'technician' (definition: neanderthal) that's just spent some 15 minutes staring aimlessly at the front of the car (obviously the 'visual check') while hacking, coughing, spitting and picking his nose, and then a further 15-20 minutes farting into your nice leather interior and checking out the contents of your glove box, armrest storage and music collection while waiting for the VAS diagnostics to run their course and upload any software changes (whilst not forgetting to critique your musical taste to any of the other 'techs' that happen to stumble, swing, hobble or shuffle past the window on their way to exercise their bodily functions in someone else's car), suddenly sees the camera and realises the last 30-40 minutes of his otherwise pointless existence has just been captured in full HD video and HQ audio quality!

Don't you run a dashcam?  Almost essential in these days of folk not taking personal responsibility & trying to push costs onto others.

edit: didn't read much beyond the first three posts.  What they all said^^^^^

I have got a dashcam, I just hadn't got around to installing the damned thing, it's a 0806, I also have a Roadhawk HD but I took it out of the last car because the quality of the footage was so sh17.

My mobile does better footage than that £200 piece of junk.

Blackvue 2 channel camera system (Front & Rear) , great piece of kit, nowadays it is not worth not getting one as there are so many situations where they are needed!
