New Octavia steering wheel is too low

Featured Replies

I find the car's steering wheel is too low, and I have to squeeze my thighs under it when I get in. I know it is adjustable, but it is (I think) at the top of its range. I can lower the seat and this does help, though I prefer a higher sitting position.

Anybody else had this issue ?  Any other options ??     Thanks

Not noticed any problems, I'm a shade under 6ft and tend to have the seat a little lower.

First time I have seen this complaint for the Octavia.

Depends on what your thigh main constituent is, whether you need to ease up on the weight lifting or take up regular exercise and a diet with a lower daily calorie intake.

O have an Octavia vRS MkII FL and I wish the instrument panel was set a little lower so that I could have the steering wheel lower without obscuring the dials, etc. I'm just under 6 feet tall and have the seat set a little above its lowest position.

I'm 6ft 2 and have no issues with the height of the wheel, you said you think it's as high as it will go, have you tried adjusting it then or are you just assuming it won't go any higher? I have bags of room

I have this same issue. I'm 6ft 1, I like a low seat base but an upright seat back. I have the seat in its lowest position and the wheel in its highest position but find my thighs catch the bottom of the wheel just above my knees.

I've found that sitting a little further back and pulling the wheel towards me slightly gives a bit of extra room for my knees to fit under the wheel, but it's not ideal. I seem to recall my Mk5 Golf had a more accommodating driving position, but at least the Octavia is significantly more comfortable than the 2nd generation Ford Focus I used to have.

Sounds a bit daft, but have you tried moving the seat back a touch and pulling the steering wheel out towards you? This will take the wheel a little higher.

As with most on here, I'm struggling to imagine how you are still having to squeeze your legs under the wheel.

This just shows how important a proper test drive is before buying.

When I tried the Octavia III I was fine for steering wheel adjustment but struggled with the door pillar position/width. I like a "laid back" driving position and I'm 6ft 4" but basically turning right I looked out of the rear window and my right elbow was too far back to be comfortable on the door arm rest , tended to twist in my seat. I already have a dodgy bad back don't want to make it worse.  This is why I bought a Superb  II - bigger doors, took me a while to get used to the seat compared to my Superb I but find it very comfortable now. Sublime/relaxed journey Last week did Yorkshire to Essex and back and didn't  need a stop in each direction

For info I don't have the arm rest issue with my Octavia I although I do get a good view of the door pillar when looking right. Old Superb I was perfection!

I've also tried a Citigo (future car for my son who is taller than me) and found the 3 door version was surprisingly good

I suppose we are all different shapes and sizes so one persons heaven is another persons hell

I've had this issue with other cars. I'm 6'4" and have no issues at all in the Octavia.

I also looked at the Seat Leon touring - same issue. Strangely the Rapid didn't seem as bad but I've not driven it. Was looking at downsizing until my son (who's at uni and calls me titch) did a U turn in suddenly wanting to come on holiday with us (it's free - well for him!)

I actually pull the seat forward one notch on the Superb II - I've never done that on ANY car before

I have this issue from time to time, depending on how much crap I have in my pockets. I found pushing the wheel further away from me helped and dropping the seat a couple of notches. I have arthritis and am not as flexible as I used to be, but it's only an issue getting in. Getting out I just do a controlled fall out of the door... :envy:

Are we talking about the vrs octavia or standard?

Vrs has flat bottomed steering wheel and it's nowhere near my thighs

Surely the op must have had a test drive before buying? Being comfy at the wheel is a pretty important part of the test drive!!!

Same here.

Many thanks, I did have a test drive but assumed the steering wheeled could be adjusted upwards. I had not realised it could be pulled out a little. I will try it. I have dropped the seat height a bit and am ok now. Thanks again.
