Heated wing mirrors

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the octavia se has heated wing mirrors as standard. I have an se business MY16. The reason I ask is they to take ages to work and I don't know if it's just the air turbulence that's de misting them, I assume the button for the rear heated window activates the heated mirrors. I have pressed the front demist and the rear but to no avail. My old Renault had heated mirrors and they worked really quickly.

No the heated mirrors are controlled by the mirror adjuster - you have to turn it to the heated setting.

You can also leave the mirror adjuster knob to heated setting as it automatically decides if heating is necessary. Too bad you still have to adjust it to get mirror dipping when reversing (if you have this option).

Yep, stupid setup that.

Thanks for the replys, soon it was stairing me in the face all along.

Have to admit that this took me a while to get on-board with. Coming from cars where the heated mirrors worked with the rear screen heater switch. Handy to read above that if you leave the switch in the 12 o'clock position, the car is intuitive enough to know when to activate. Are we 100% sure it's that clever?

It'd be good to know as I often forget to turn mine off.

EDIT: For "often" read "usually". :)

The Fabia doesn't decide when to heat the mirrors if the dial is left in the 12 o'clock position, they come on then deactivate after a set period of time, I think it is somewhere between 10-15mins. Mine are always set to on and have never burnt out or failed in the 3 years of ownership. I guess the octy would be the same setup.

Posts some months back came to the conclusion that it didn't switch off automatically.

cheers buddy, this would support my vague memory of realising my dial was at 12 o'clock unintentionally in the middle of the day and feeling warm mirror glass.

I'll be leaving mine at 6 o'clock until needed.

The level of voltage supplied to the mirror heating is controlled on a PWM basis depending on the outside temperature. I gather it's been this way on larger VAG group cars for a while. The colder it is, the higher the voltage and the warmer the mirror glass gets.

The only time no voltage is supplied to the mirror heating when the switch is in the heating position is if the car thinks it's quite warm outside. Sure it's something like above 18 degrees C.

So even now in the UK, it's fairly mild but your mirrors will still get warm if switched on.

If your outside temperature probe goes faulty, so will your heated mirrors.
