Insurance rant

Recommended Posts

Just spent two hours ringing around and filling out online forms only to come to the realisation that I'm just getting royally shafted!!! My insurance is up by 230 euro from last year!!! Why the rise?...I think just because they can!!! I mean 650 euro a year?!!!

An what's with these quick quotes you get that are for half the price until you tell them something they don't like and its ohhh no you cant have that price you can one that's double!!!!

I wouldn't mind if I was a daft wee boy...but at 48 for a 2011 Octy RS doing about 5k miles a year there's some pee taking going on!!!...Rant over....Now best I get back to some work so I can earn some money to pay for it!!!

K:(

Mods?

Nope...Having had a few chats with some firms it seems that due to the fact the average pay out for a " whiplash" injury and of course even if you have the smallest of shunts then the rules say you have to claim for whiplash is 15K euro and add that to the fact that one of the companies that pay into the uninsured drivers pay out fund here has gone bust and the court has decided that all the other companies have to share the burden.

So in 2014 my insurance was 335 euro, fully comp, protected no claims, windscreen and breakdown....this year its 650...that's more or less 100% increase in two years!!!!

Not much makes me rant...but i'm STILL in ranty mode today!!!!...that's how fecked off I am :(

^^^^^. So it is not only your insurance that has more than doubled in 2 Years?

All Companies and all policy buyers are sharing the hurt!

They are spinning you a line on the extent of the increase, are they not?

Carry on ranting because those that you have been speaking to must have their pants on fire.

Yup...We have a motor insurance bureau that all insurance companies pay into to cover accidents involving uninsured drivers, Setanta insurance went bust and the high court have said that the remaining insurance companies have to cover Setanta's burden...hence all our insurance goes up.

Have tried every company and comparison website here and all the viable ones are within 50 euro of each other, then the non viable ones are well over 1200!

It's a "because they can" thing. Most of the big name insurers are owned by one of a few groups.

Mods?

The crazy thing is, the mods on mine (towbar, EGR delete, different wheels) actually make my insurance cheaper, by about a third, because then they can use a specialist. Try some of the smaller, specialised insurers, they can be really, really competitive. I remember years ago my brother got banned (drink drive + no ins) and when he got his licence back, his insurance was cheaper through a specialist in convicted drivers than it was before he got caught :o

Who are you with? My aviva renewal came in last june for 550 odd on a mk1 90bhp diesel octavia...

rang them as after 8yrs with them they could do better - cut it on the phone to 380..pretty much the same as yr before,

Includes roll back ncb, windscreen open 3rs party, swmbo, and business use for work (mileage claims)

Should be good this year.... the whole setanta compensation and RSA ireland going belly up spreading the pain onto everyone is a crock - same as Lifetime Community Rating on health cover and gobmvernment levies, and pension levies... just because i can affors these things why should i have to pay extra on top for the privilege of being lucky to have the cash ??

Yes increases in the Insurance Tax in the UK.

The Republic of Ireland have their own Taxation and Insurance Underwriters and Companies going bust, whip lash claims etc,

so not really the same as the UK, but the same excuses used when you ask why they want you to bend over and take their abuse.
