Of course you can fit 16´s on it. Just make sure the tires are 205/55-16 your speedo will be fine.

Agreed re comfy,quiet and better on fuel - mine has a very quiet ride. Was in a 2.0 diesel Elegance pre-facelift twin-door and it wasn't as quiet (not just because of the diesel engine!) - I don't know what tyres were fitted though - not sure the taxi driver would have appreciated me giving his car the once over 

 

They seem to last longer as well  - Before I swapped to my winters I had 25k miles on my original Continentals still with about 6mm tread
