Fabia Power Steering

Featured Replies

Does anyone know what type of powersteering the Fabia vRS has? is it that new fangled electric type or good old hydrolic type with a pump on the engine?

cheers

possibly a mixture of both not sure though?

I've never heard a pump noise when turning the wheel whilst stationary...

TBH - As long as it makes the wheels turn nice and easy whilst making short manouveres, I'm not too fussed. I haven't heard many threads about PAS failure, yet.... [commentator's curse?]

or with VAG-com

ala THIS post off Seatcupra.net

anyone got a VAG-COM? :D

my pas whines all the time while under load :(

I guess, Alex, that my engine is so loud, the knocking noise drowns out the whining. :D

so was mine a constant tick tick tick tick tick aargh it drove me crazy!!!!:(

i noticed today, that if the engine is doing less than 2000rpm, the headlights dim quite noticeably when i turn the wheel, anyone else notice this?

That wil happen due to the load of the electric pump its normal.

And I set quite a few PAS systems up for a slightly less assistance, only takes five mins.

to quote Toxxin from above thread on SCN

"Yep Ross did mine a few weeks back and it's so much better...thanks mate! "

the pas on my furbie is so light compared to the octy when i first test drove it it was a very strange experience almost as if it was unassisted

Just need to recode it then, that will firm it up for you.

the furbie is going on thursday :D

Just get it changed from 00121 to 00151 in steering assistance which is address word 44 iirc and you will notice the difference.

cheers for that techie but i am sure my local dealer wouldnt know one end of the vag-com for the other even if i shoved it up their a**e :(

any way new car on thursday

Ahh yes I see you shout in the box...git..lol

Mine should be in my garage at the weekend :)

I was quite fortunate. I went into the dealer and got chatting with the owner, as soon as I told him I was a VAG trained technician he didnt bother with any bull**** and did me a deal :)

Think he was gonna offer me a job but its a bit far from Northampton. ;)

where are you getting yours from?

Just watch out for the power steering sensor. My failed exactly 24 months after delivery. When the sensor konked, the pump no longer worked and it felt like driving my old Renault 19 again.

The sensor cost 95 quid or S$265. No problems since then. My steering is set for medium, quite all right in both highway and city driving. I dread when its time to replace steering parts due to wear and tear, not sure how much it will cost.

I'm pretty sure the steering sensors are a problem of old now. Didnt have any go on the Ibiza's as they had pretty much sorted them by then.

'Fabia'- I got my vRS from Tavistock Motors in Ampthill, Bedford.

fabia if you have any problem with your car drop it into autosales if your close buy. iam sure i can work out which end of the vag 5051 to use. i just had my furby vrs today. how happy am i.

Congrats Ade.
