Octavia Estate

Featured Replies

Has anyone with a Mk1 Octavia Estate ever had any problems with rust around the plastic rear numberplate trim?

I'm sure I've read somehere that it's not uncommon..... Thanks.

Do you mean the part that houses the lock barrel and plate illumination lights?

Mine has no rust anywhere on the car.

Yep, that's the fella the bit above the numberplate recess just below the Skoda badge.

Mines starting to bubble up from underneath and the paint is starting to blister. When cleaning over the weekend a lump of paint came away when i passed the jetwash lance over it. Is now down to bare metal about the size of a 5p

I might be wrong, but i thought the body was galvanized?

better check mine.

Is it a 10year anti perforation warrenty? if it is get it to a dealer quick.

Yes but perforation means a hole they won't even look at it until there's a hole all the way through.

jab it with a screwdriver !?

seriously though, i would have thought they would do something for you seeing as though the paint has bubbled as well...

worth checking with the dealer at least... also i have heard a few times now that VAG paint is pretty soft and chips easily.

I was curious to know if anyone had anything similar happen as I'm sure I've read on these pages somewhere that a couple of Octy estates have suffered a similar problem.

The dealer has applied to Skoda UK for authorisation to repair under warranty and this has been accepted. The cynic in me suggests that Skoda UK have come across this before hence why they've agreed to repair so readily.

Nothing on our '02 estate

mine is like it mate, a couple of little brown spots round the rear window too :(

Blimey  Gunna have a buchers in the morning !!!!!!!!!!

when i open my tailgate on my 01 car, there's a little rust spot on the bottom edge thats almost through.

the car is off to the dealers soon for a service, so i'd planned to get it looked at then.

the bit around the lock has cracked paint, but it looks plastic to me, and there's no sign of rust.

by the way for perforation warrenty only comes into play if there is a hole in a panel that is proved to have started on the inside and worked outwards. pretty much useless really.

Just been reminded of this so thought I'd post an update.

The car went in last week and was repaired under warranty, no questions asked. I haven't got to the bottom of it but it would appear moisture had got under the paint which caused it to lift. It definately wasn't rust anyway as rightly said the bodies are galvanised.

I'd recommend anyone with an Octavia Estate to go and have a good look around the area of the bootlid where the plastic surround is above the numberplate for any signs of the paint blistering and just to be on the safe side it might not be a good idea to be too gung ho with the old jetwash :)
