Just been looking at the July 2016 brochure and some more changes (download available on Skoda UK website)

Monte Carlo petrol manual is dropped (can still get DSG version)

The coloured roof options are dropped, and Monte Carlos loose black roof from 1st Aug

All models have gained horizontal rails with sliding hooks in the boot.

  • I agree - like the side mouldings being removed from the urban/indoor models.   I had reflectors in my last Passat which I thought was cheapskate of them, so it was a nice surprise for the Yeti to h

  • Yes, I do (been there, drove them, wore out the T shirts decades ago), so you're showing my age as well as yours, probably others' too!  Well, it is a Yeti forum...

Typical Skoda! As here in the UK a lot of people want it with DSG and its only available as a manual.

But the Monte Carlo does get a LED number plate light!

That are useless if you specify a spare wheel.

I have a spare wheel and still find them useful. Just have to think a bit "out of the box".

So here we have a car reaching the end of it's production schedule (7 years now and 9 years before replacement) and Skoda are reducing the customer choices rather than expanding them to maintain customer interest?  Does that make any sense to anyone?

Show me where it says that SUK have to make sense. :giggle:

Point taken.

I agree. Given that the new one is a couple of years away you'd think they'd want to maintain the choice or even increase it and sell as many as they can. Maybe the run-out models will address this?

Problem for Skoda is that they have to dance to VW's tune. Of course without them, they wouldn't be where they are now, but it's a two edged sword.

Everyone is very quick to criticise SUK, but they can only do as their masters say.

We are the customers so have a right to criticise SUK - and by implication VAG - if they don't offer what customers want. The reduction in range might well be related to VAG's financial woes as they try to reduce complexity and hence increase cash availability. They will certainly need shedloads of cash to settle the claims in the USA alone and the strain on their finances is likely to go on for years. It is not inconceivable that they might be forced to sell one, or more, of their brands to raise the cash to survive and the shortage of cash is inevitably going to impact on their development and model replacement schedules.

For VW's 'bottom line' , containing costs is about inventory and what's available with the updated and shared VW and Seat range will probably be what the new Yeti finally gets.

Indulging an old Yeti by retaining 'unique' options would be expensive, I guess.

I tend to agree that days are numbered for the current Yeti. It has made Skoda a good return over the years. Also agree that 2018 model will be a variant of Ateca and Tiguan sharing vast amounts of parts. I do wonder if cost cutting will mean earlier introduction as it allows old non standard design to go, and the new one won't need much testing as all the mechanicals already tested for Seat and VW

In the meantime, can Skoda really continue four normal, and five outdoor variants, my guess is further rationalisation will happen when Kodiaq is launched, the 1.2 petrol is probably soldiering on until the new 1.5 is available after which probably be just one petrol option, the lower powered 1.5 We've already seen the Monte Carlo and L&K loose engine/gearbox options. The S model is probably only surviving because a basic model is needed in other countries so the parts are needed for production anyway.

I don't see the 1.2 being replaced by the 1.5, the 1.2 has been replaced by the 1.0 in every other VAG model as downsizing and CO2 reduction continues.

I suspect the 1.2 will continue in the "Older" models and specific other models as the 1.2 production line winds down until production ceases and as 1.0 production ramps up.

Another new brochure dated August 2016 is now available on Skoda UK website

Not sure what has changed though,

Monte Carlo black roof is now a cost option and the other colour roofs have gone.

They have also dropped any mention of NCAP 5 star safety rating. Apart from that very little change as they use the existing Yeti as a Cash Cow over the last 2 years of its life cycle. Sales volumes will inevitably decline in the face of new models from Seat, Audi, etc. but by minimising any updating and with development costs long written off the Yeti will be a nice little earner for VAG in their time of financial need!

Of course in a sensible model strategy the Yeti should have been replaced in 2016 but I fear all new investment spend is being carefully controlled by VAG accountants needing to hoard cash to settle the multi billion dollar US lawsuits that will plague VAG for the next ten+ years. Once the US legal system has a foreign company in its sites there is no limit to the inventiveness of the claims that will be made and no limit to the sums they will extract. The US system almost broke BP, while treating the US companies involved much more leniently, and the same venom will be turned against VAG.

^^^^^ eg GM's 124 ignition key deaths which they tried to deny.

Looks like the 92 TSI (1.4L) that I own is now gone from the Aussie site. Just the 81 TSI (1.2L) remains.

I also noticed that the model configurator now allows you to configure a 4x4 Outdoor model, which is a 1.4L. I assume this is similar to the 1.4 L&K available in the UK. Also of note, it's a 6 speed DSG rather than a 7 that was on the previous 1.4 TSI.
