Anybody tried internet cheaper C/L replacement locks ?

Featured Replies

I am looking into buying some replacement central locking mechs for the rear doors (failed insitu !) and apart from paying £130 for genuine ones there are some on the internet from £25 and are brand new, they have the correct numbers but the suffix on the ends are slightly different as per they don't list the last letter, has anybody fitted any of these locks and found them to work OK and if so where from or even bought them and they don't work ! if people have can we make a list please for future referance. cheers Stuart

I got my off a seller called gearmaxparts on eBay. Works perfectly, I've posted the link on one or two deadlocked door threads

I bought a copy for the front and it worked ok for a short period of time but then failed ended up buying a genuine one.

The genuine one is better made tbh.

They're pretty popular in the Octavia mk1 section, not too many bad reports at all. For the money well worth a punt. Or you could go used genuine ones but probably more of a gamble.

Hi, Thanks for the replys, 'Thisday' did the replacement unit have the same markings on the lock or were they slightly different to what was fitted ? I have sent for one so I will try it to see if it works OK before ordering another one for the other side as some of the sites say they wont accept it back unless it was professionally fitted ! but claim you have a years warranty ! cheers Stuart

funny enough was just looking at the same item from the same seller!! Can you confirm the correct one for a 2007 VRS MK1 is the 6 pin version?

Thanks

Ours was a 6 pin for the rear locks.your front ones are 8 pin and with the front ones I think you have to have the correct suffix on the end.ours was for a 2002 fabia elegance hatchback and I managed to open them by opening a hole in the side because they were deadlocked ! Cheers Stuart

Cheers Stuart I have just been outside and locked / unlocked it half a dozen times and its working perfectly at the minute, sprayed spray grease into everywhere I could get to without stripping it down and now I think I will leave it till the weather gets better!! Peter

As soon as it starts acting up send off for some new locks ! as its the motor inside that wears its carbon brushes down and goes intermittent, and if it deadlocks shut ! the best way of releasing it is to cut a small hole in the side with a small dremil,  turn the cog with your finger and have a means of locking the cog with a piece of metal bent at right angles for about 1/2 inch on the end as its spring loaded, as you turn it you will hear the deadlock disengage ! OH and when refitting the new lock make sure you reinstall a plastic support which goes round the rod that has 3 holes for its mount onto the carrier, don't forget to reseal the carrier to stop water ingress. cheers Stuart

Well both rear locks are working OK its just fiddly attaching the door handle wire clip onto the arm, and I found it best to have the carrier in place and just held in there with the top 2 screws allowing you to ease it out at the bottom and then apply some mastic around the edges and bottom. cheers Stuart
