Fastest Fabia vRS ?

Featured Replies

I didn't realise that LPG could run on a diesel?

I was enquiring about LPG on my old petrol engined car earlier this year, but they couldn't do it as the max bhp per injector was 70bhp and I was already running above that. I wonder what the limits are for diesel as that might be a consideration?

One thing I am wondering; can you actually get more revs out of a diesel? If not, why not? I ask as otherwise, petrol engines are always going to have the edge in terms of the powerband. Take my Focus ST, which delivers peak torque at 1600 rpm, but pulls all the way to 7000 rpm.

John.

What about the Awesome 3 day event between Crimbo and NY. I'm down in Manchester for 4 days and was going to join the cupra net guys anyway.

Let us know when you going and I'll book myself in.

So Colin you up for it as well? Who else?

Just testing somthing...

errr...The powerband on most modern diesels is from 1700rpm-4500rpm (new twin turbo ones), and my remapped Fabia kicks in around 1800 and doesnt tail off to 4500 (peak power is 3800), in this respect i think it has a much better powerband than a N/A petrol which doesn't get going to around 4500rpm. And if you really want to go quickly in a petrol you have to rag the nuts off it (Civic Type R is a good example) whereas in a diesel it pulls like a train from near idle (as soon as the turbo spins up).

Anyway, back on topic.

The diffs in,

Erh, I think it depends on the engine and I was really referring to turbocharged petrol engines. As per my posting, peak torque of 236lb is delivered on my Focus at 1600rpm, but peak BHP is near to the red line at 7,000 rpm. So, the powerband is approx 4,600 as opposed to diesels 2,800. However, the downside is that the thing sucks in petrol like there's no tomorrow.

A Civic Type R is a rather unfair comparison as that engine is somewhat gutless until you hit the VVC and then it goes bonkers - totally the other end of the spectrum to high output diesels. Unless it's installed in an Elise and then I can assure you it seldom feels slow.

Anyway, I was just wondering whether you could change cams or something else in a diesel engine to make it rev above the normal 4,500 rpm? That would make as much difference to acceleration times as more power as you wouldn't need to change gear so often.

Also for some reason it reduced losses on the RR so my WHP is now 219bhp' date=' losses reduced from 51bhp to just 29bhp can anyone explain this.[/quote']

if my maths is right(and it usually isnt:O ) thats 248bhp

passenger ride at next trackday?

ANyone know what the rpm limit is on the Toureag's V10 diesel?

Barsteward, you have just leap frogged me yet again, SWMBOS not liking our little competition, all in the name of a pint of beer too!!

I think you'll have it when summer comes. That Nos is nice just like your own little frost machine, and the LPG install looks great, I bet it burns real clean now. I'll have to save up some more, like you say we'll have to call a truce. I'm still stunned at the difference on the RR, but when your gearbox is out in January who knows what'll get put back in ;) ;)

I'd explain that as an incorrect run down on the rolling road.

certainly RobDon noticed a reduction in friction loss when he had the ATB fitted, Star's Dyno tends to be reliably accurate/consistant, cant fault them there!

Well, I still have the fastest "pd100" :D

LPG and injectors are now on my wish list.

How do you know???? its probably in a polo now

i've missed something here. LSD's, LPG, NOS, when did you guys getting to this stage of modding and who did it?

Please give more info as to what power gains can be had and some accurate RR figures before and after. Also some info on what mods you guys had done to your cars prior to the above mods would be appreciated.

If you're talking about my old engine, its in a Swansea based Ford Galaxy, and doing very well. Nice to see my old stuff being used to their full potential. :D

OK, so I have some way to have the quickest PD130 just yet. Any info on LPG then... and when did NOS suddenly surface?

the chaps putting a singular quote together for me today seemingly after my request yesterday, so i will post that as and when it comes in,

Dont be concerned about the NOS, its more of a cooling helper than anything else ;) honest guv

What's that smell? [sniff sniff] ;) :P

I looked at the Halo kit a couple of weeks back when I was up, it looked good the way it frosted the I/C, we need a RR day to see if it gets the 10-15bhp increase. Are you back in January for the Clutch kit.

SWMBO has twigged re the cost, I should have let her go shopping after dropping me off rather than letting her meet Brian. LOL.

. Are you back in January for the Clutch kit.

After recent days i really need to be in for a clutch now TBH, was tootling along nicely before my xmas bonus driving around the clutch

Black Magic - 219whp is very impressive i bet thats a beast to drive

Just wondering what your peak torque figure is ?

Black Magic:

If I may give my comments:

Nitrous is wasted in a halo setup. CO2 is much more cost effective and does a very similar job at cooling an I/C.

If you're going to use Nitrous, get it squirted inside the engine!

:)

Unless you can get NOS for free ;)

Thanks Josh, you may give your comments.

My car is not running NoS it's Bigs, he's already injecting LPG, for very useful gains all the time not just a squirt to impress the natives. I have seen his NoS install and just for effect alone well worth the low cost. As he says working for HM I'm sure he can get a free refill.

After seeing the LPG, its got to be the way to go rather than turbo upgrade, wish it was the path I'd took but until Mikey tried it I knew little about it.

By the way the sumpguard is still doing a great job, I had to panel beat it after the log incident.
