Retro fitting MDI interface

Featured Replies

My new SKoda Superb SE does not have a MDI slot and I wish to retrofit to control my Ipod. I have bought all the parts but wonder if anyone has a  how to in fitting one.

Probably in the glove rather than the central console.

it would if Skoda had fitted to loom and then all you needed was the interface but hey ho

This is the list of MDI parts available from the accessory catalogue: http://www.partsbase.org/skoda/superb-sup-eu-2013-03545-electrical-parts-for-audio-system-cd-changers-tv-tuner-amplifiers-multimedia-interface-box-mdi-with-integrated-control-unit/

I'm not sure what the difference between the different MDI units is though. Usually the kits come with fitting instructions - you may be able to download these online with a bit of searching. Beyond that, I'd suggest a poke through the threads here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/7-in-car-entertainment-ice-and-security/

There is a guide in the Octavia section which might give you some clues: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/169642-mdi-retrofit-howto/

The only thing to make it easier is a aftermarket loom that will connect between the headunit and the car. Saves any cutting/crimping/soldering wires :)

Well I got all the parts but for the life of me cannot find where to locate it.

For easiness I was going to put it in the glove box but as the glove box is a complete unit that drops down rather than just a door I can think of how I would locate in there,

Anyone retro  fitted MDI to a superb?

I'm looking at the service manual here. The stock location for the USB connector is inside the front armrest, and the interface module is fitted under the centre console - looks like you'd need to remove the console to fit it.

Yes I see a bit of oblong white plastic on the back of the centre console, I believe this is where the factory fitted option is situated but that looks like a bit of a job to get it there, that's why I was assuming the glove box was the place for the retro fit part.

If you want to fit it to the glovebox you'll need to cut an appropriate hole and then use a extension lead and trim piece.

Part numbers are 1Z0 971 199 and 4F0 035 909.

I've got a glovebox with an appropriate sized hole so I can trace it and bring it along when I take a look at your DRL if it helps.

That white plastic is the armrest storage area light.

Well mines does not come on, or perhaps only when the main beam is on. Is it meant to be on all the time?

Hm not to keen on cutting holes in things, what about situating the plug in the drop down hatch under the lights switch on the drivers side.

Will PM you regarding the DLRs

It only lights up when your headlights are on.
