Goodyear Tyres

Featured Replies

Hi, I am looking for a set of decent tyres, I fancy the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric 3, from what i have read people seem to give them a good write up, just wondering if anyone has them fitted and what they think. Thanks. David.

Why?

They don't seem to be as good as the tyres they replace (Asymmetric 2) and they are probably no great shakes in the wet - or when it is cold.

From what I have read the ratings are:-

Asymmetric 2.

Petrol-E

Wet-  A

Noise -70db

Asymmetric 3

Petrol-E

Wet-   A

Noise- 67db

As there is only £3 difference in price, i thought the newer tyre would be a better bet.

I am looking for tyres that are :-

Good in wet and dry.

Low noise

More comfort ride.

I dont want to change from 17" wheels.

E for petrol consumption?

On this website and about 2 others I've seen it on they're rated as C for fuel efficient, A for wet grip and 67db.

Just going on those figures, if correct, it makes it sound like a bloody good tyre! Which is why, despite being expensive, where probably going to be my next choice of tyre

I just got some new continental sport contact 5's off black circles worked out £94 each - 205/40 R17 84w XL decent tires had them before!

The C rating is for 215/40/17 , it says 205 are E rated.

I ran 18' asymmetric 2's on my old car. They were great tyres. Good grip, especially in the wet. They had a larger than normal rim protector lip too, which was good. I would imagine that the newer version should be at least as good if not better.

Apologies, I hadn't thought about that. I'm going to get the 215's. I don't really understand why the 205's are given a worse rating when they're only ever so slightly smaller?

Can I ask why you are going for 215s, would these affect insurance as they are non standard tyres.

I'm not sure about the insurance tbh mate. In fact I genuinely hadn't actually thought about it at all, so I'll give them a call tomorrow. As for why, the Audi A1 and VW Polo GTI have them (so don't see why not with the Fabia), lots of people with the Fabia say it helps with the handling and I thought it would just be good to have a little extra rubber on the road! :)

My winters are Goodyear, and to be fair, they're a bit average.

Mmm. I guess every tyre generally seems to have good reviews and bad ones? I love the hankooks that are on mine at the moment but I've seen other people have said they're bad to average. I thought if they were quiet, good in the wet and were quite fuel efficient, might be worth a go. Although at £96 a pop, still on the look out for other tyres!

Checked with insurance just to be on safe side, and they said it would make no difference to premium at all :)
