Help Diagnosing knocking/thudding.

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a MK1 VRS with about 102k on the clock. I was just about to change all the breaks but when I got back from working overseas it developed these new sounds. They are actually sat in my boot waiting to be put on.

I was going to replace the CV joints as it was "groaning" and maybe ticking which made me think this was the problem. Although now it has developed into the sounds in the link below.

Ones a high pitch "squeak" that usually happens going over bumps. The others a loud thudding when locking hard left and back to right. There is no play in the steering, it dosent vibrate or nothing however after the thudding you can feel it vibrate mildly I suppose. In the shorter of the two sound clips I think the creeking noise is because the car is stationary when turning... or at least I hope!
