auto-dimming rear view mirror

Featured Replies

Hi.

My new Octavia has an auto-dimming rear view mirror. At the front it has a sensor, an on-off button, and an indicator light.

How does it work?  What is the on-off button for? Is there a manual override?

The user manual is a little confusing on the subject.   Thanks for all info. KK

Press on button. On position is when it is inset. Green light goes on when it is activated.

I went back to dealer after first week, so it is not you, it is the manual.

Off means it doesn't dim.on it dims when headlights from behind shine on it, which doesn't often happen with the Vrs☺

Ok thanks, but can i override it, can I force it to dim?

You can trick it to stay dim by blocking the light sensor on the back of the mirror, with a lump of bluetac or a price of tape over the square apature :)

(That is the little sensor facing the windscreen on the back left of the mirror as you face it)

On is auto dim. Otherwise off just leaves it as a normal mirror :(

Try what I mentioned above if you want it permanently dimmed.

The way I know the little trick above works is, I had the opposite problem my mirror would not dim even when pitch black.

I have a small dashcam, which at the time was mounted up behind the mirror, which concealed it very nicely BUT the glow off the small screen was shining into the rear sensor and it thought it was daylight, so no matter how bright the lights behind me shone on the front sensor by the green led, the rear thought it was daytime...gggrrrr

Moved the dashcam away from the rear sensor and hey presto a dimming mirror!

Apart from the above dash cam issue, I don't see why you'd want it permanently dimmed

I haven't driven much at night since getting my O3 last week, but I miss not being able to click the rear view mirror down as it was handy to check on kids. I prob need a little add-on mirror I suppose

I don't, I want to be able to dim when I want to, not when it decides to

Press the button then

They only fit if you have the small camera and sensor, shame they don't make one to fit all the mirrors

It's a strange one, superskoda claim it doesn't fit but other site don't mention it. As it's just a stick on part you might be able to attach it somewhere else.

There is also this image which makes it look like there is an alternative mounting when lane assist cameras etc are installed. I can't see any reference to it apart from this image though.

That's interesting Never seen that image, don't know if it is a different mount or it is just a Skoda Photoshop image!

Could not find a way to mount mine using the attached mount and looking at it now I don't have as big a gap as that is showing. The only way I got it to fit was to take the mount off and double sided tape it to the top of the mirror. Not the best but it works.

Thanks fellas,

Must take a close look at those options and see which one fits mine best.

The shopping list for superskoda is getting long... [emoji39]
