Only just measured the garage

Featured Replies

Basically I pick up the S3 next week. It is 4861mm long, my garage is 4900 long. Not really been an issue in my Nissan Note. Anyway, I didn't specify the camera and wondered if anyone knows if the rear parking sensors (or front for that matter) are accurate enough to get me within the 39mm of space I have hanging about?

Using my S2 as an example, no they're not. When they start making a continuous sound, the car is about 6 to 8 inches from the obstruction. You might need some foam rubber on the wall!

foam on wall, tennis ball hanging from ceiling, mirrors, the whole 9 yards I think. Thanks for the info :)

39mm is tight.

A mate of mine tied a tennis ball on string and suspended it from the garage roof, when the ball touched the windscreen he was far enough forward in the garage. Stick a piece of 10mm thick polyethylene on the wall in case you go too far.

Get 4 house bricks... Ones with holes and bolt them side by side to the floor as wheel stopers to prevent you hitting the wall as the senses will be glowing red at that distance.

Don't think there is anyone in my road that actually uses the garage to put a car in!

You'll probably want to turn off auto hold while parking that accurately as it can make small moves difficult.

All great advice. Thank you all. Going to ask my 7 year old daughter to back me in first time so we can check distance etc. I like to put the pressure on her from time to time haha. I trust her more than the Mrs :D

Must be a tiny garage if it can only just fit an a3 ! That's tiny anyway , reverse in as well as most problems arise as door catches roof / hatch spoiler as you close , I moved house 10 years ago as my vRS fitted with 3 MM. to spare but it was a pain to get in with so little room . Modern houses are worse , brother in laws estate all have double garages that appetures are so small only he and one other park in it , might be more soon as next but two had both cars stolen from drive

Who gave you the length it's only 4310 MM so you're ok anyway

The brochure says 4861mm for the hatchback, 4856 for the combi. Never realised the combi was a (big) gnats whisker shorter than the hatchback!

(The owners manual says the same)

Ahh ok, I've just checked here: http://www.automobiledimension.com/audi-car-dimensions.html you are giving me the A3 sportback length. I'm referring to the Skoda Superb mark 3 (sometimes on forum we use S3 or SIII). I like the Audi S3 but need something bigger. :)

Is it ok for width? The S3 is a very wide car - have to be more selective in my parking now than I did in my old Cmax!

Very true, width can be a killer, no point on getting the car into the garage if you can't open the door to get out of it, my brother has nearly had that issue with the O2 and O3, so much so that the dealer loaned us an O3 so that we could test fit it in the garage and see if he could get out of the car. He could but only just, if he put any weight on he wouldn't be able to, so no pies for him! :D

The OP should also consider a foam panel on the wall to open the door onto as well!

. Yes no problem here, just length, it's a slightly odd shaped garage, not as long as I'd like but wide enough!

Specifically built a 6m*3m garage to make sure it would fit every car I could ever imaging having. First new car I get: 2m wide, which means you won't really be able to open both doors while parked inside.

Not considering buying a Hummer then ;)

I think height might be a bigger issue then  :D

But seriously, i think the importance of the width of a garage is highly underestimated. A Superb with 2 doors fully open + some extra space to pass the doors when open, would require a garage which is almost as wide as it is long.

Ah in the real world an S3 is an sporty Audi A3 , I knew you had a Superb from sig , thought you left on drive but you said you were picking up an S3 not a Mk3

Your living dangerously Lad !

If it is a small garage buy some earplugs.

I park in my rear yard, 4 inches on passenger side, enough room on the drivers side to half open a door, the front wing sits about 2 inches from a dustbin as does the very front of the car.

That allows the roller door to close about 5 inches behind the boot.

The proximity detectors eventually all red line and I think, judging by the tone, announces me as dead to the medical fraternity.
