Screen wash Jets - really?!?

Featured Replies

Hi all, I've noticed since I picked up the VRS that the washers were a little 'wild' but didn't perhaps notice just how crackers they were. Tonight I used them to clean off a Condor turd in conjunction with he wipers and the screen wash covered both front windows, the rear screen and the entire side of the Mrs car that was parked beside me. These need to be tamed, I want that water on my screen and not smearing bubbles of water up the side of my freshly detailed car, can anything be done??

Perhaps it was the headlamp washers that actually covered the car with bubbles , they go over my wing mirrors and along the sides of the car coz they are so powerful.

You know, I didn't notice the headlamp washers going off but there is a chance!! Has anyone worked out the ratio of windscreen to headlamp washes? Think it was around 5 on the Leon!

What additive are you using. You have to use the vw stuff as the nozzle is very sensitive to the screen wash you use, if you don't use the right stuff the spray patten is not fan shaped.

There is a fuse you can remove on the mk2 to disable the headlamp washers, I guess you may be able to do the same on the mk3?

Every first wash after ignition switch on (only when headlights are on), then I think every 10th wash after that.

Dont forget that the spray pattern for the nozzles is configured to give you optiumum cleaning at road speeds.  When stationary, it'll go everywhere but when in motion it'll mostly get your windscreen.

That's true - if you sit in the stationary car first thing in the morning and operate the screen wash to get rid of the night's muck, it goes onto the side windows too.

It even goes onto the rear screen somehow!

Out on the road it works okay.

+1, operating them when stationary is not going to end well.

As it is a fine mist rather than a single jet of water it gets carried by the wind.

When I used my washers and wipers to clear off dried on bird poo all it did was smear it all over the windscreen.

Have you tried adjusting the angle of them?

Would like to know how to do this myself. Headlamp washers may be handy in some conditions or for those who don't clean their cars but for me I have to be midfull not to use them while standing still in traffic close to the pavement.

mine initially were like this, and i found that the washer nozzles were not installed correctly.

Using vcds, you can extend the initial time before the headlight washers wake up, like for example you hold handle for 2 seconds before they engage, which is enough to clean the windscreen without engaging headlight washers.
