What do you think of Kessy - should I upgrade to Go?

Featured Replies

Umm, no, it doesn't, at least not with DSG. If you don't press on the brake pedal, the button press will count as the half turn of the key. And then, as far as I can remember, you can roll down windows just fine.

not got mine yet but I thought the same after reading the manual

So presumably with the manual box pressing the start button without holding down the clutch will have the same effect. Ignition will be on but engine will not start? Hope this is the case. :)

off for a try..--- confirmed.. pressing the button without depressing the clutch does work.. only took me a year to find that out..

-- okay, I take back a little of my rant from earlier.

Certainly that's how it works in my dad's 3-series, which has a very similar system to Kessy Go.

Haha :) It was the other way around for me. I was like, I press the button, the car won't start... WTH?!?! I just left the dealer... Then I figured out that I have to press the brake to have it started :)

The biggest problem for me when I get my new car this week with kessy will be not depressing the clutch when I get in the car. The manual says press button, wait, then depress clutch to start. After years of depressing the clutch before I even turn the key it will be a hard habit to break

For the past year I have been just getting in the car, pressing the clutch, and then pressing the start button - on a  petrol car. I am not sure if you need to preheat the diesel by just turning on the ignition first.

At least the button is not "spin starter motor", but instead "commence startup sequence", so I would assume (totally without reading a handbook, or even ever sitting in a diesel with button start) that the functionality is the same: press button to request engine startup. Once the engine is ready for starting, the starter motor will spin and the engine start.

The manual says something like - do not depress the clutch, press the start button then depress the clutch to start car. Do not depress the clutch and press the start button as the car will try to start.

??

I've read the manual but haven't got the car yet :)

:) Please let us know how it works once you get the car - this is getting interesting  :D

I got an email from Dan ar DM Keith, Leeds to say .... "I have had a look and we have a confirmed build week of 23 which is the last week in May therefore I would expect your car to arrive with us end of June.

I cant guarantee that if we was to add kessy go that it would get added to the order, although I cant see it been a problem as your car isn’t due to start production for another 3-4 weeks. If you would like I can re-do the order with kessy go and see if it gets added and if it doesn’t will go back to the original order at the original payments."

I wouldn't have thought it was a problem changing Kessy to Kessy Go 3 weeks before build week but I'm not exactly an expert on the world of building cars! I really want Kessy Go now so fingers crossed!!!

I thought you wanted kessy not Kessy Go so you don't have to use your keys to open the door?

Have Full Kessy on my car ... love it - really convenient.

But it seems that keyless is also becoming quite the security risk. Not just on VW group.

Heard a few stories recently that bothered me, so have recently bought a Stoplock Pro for the steering wheel ..

thought I'd done with putting Krook-loks on cars back in the 70s or 80s with my Escort, Cortina and Cavalier  !

It is quite the disappointment.

It seems that the "ne'er-do-wells" can get access to really cheap electronics that bypass the system.

See the attached very worrying video recorded just last week, showing a new BMW 520 being nicked :

WATCH: The moment a car is stolen without keys from a driveway in Clonee

( Clonee is about 5 or 6 miles north-west of Dublin city )

This may be a particular Irish problem - with a lot of cars being stolen for the overseas parts market.

Cars are just "disappearing". Especially the more high-end stuff - Beemers, Mercs etc..

My car has the full alarm ( the one with interior monitoring) - and my hope is that between that and the Stoplock, stealing of the car will be discouraged.

But if they want it - I'm sure they'll take it.

Sorry for pouring water on the KESSY system. All Manufacturers have GOT to beef up the security on these.

Guess if I was buying in the morning - I'd might be looking for a car with keys again, until there's better encryption or other forms of verification.

Meanwhile - I'm keeping the keys (including spare) in biscuit tins - with tight fitting lids - in the kitchen!

Wrapping the keys in  cooking foil works as well. (Yes - I've checked it!). Also, some tins don't work well - they actually act as an antenna for the key, potentially making the thieves job easier.

Apart from that (!) - KESSY is great in day-to-day use.

there's no reason you have to press start button, then press clutch in and start button a second time. just press clutch in and start button.. depressing the clutch as we all know is to reduce the load on the engine.. that's all..

Also, what I meant to say was to the OP, the title of this thread should be downgrade to GO.. Kessy is the full system, Kessy GO is the light version..

Pressing the clutch is also an interlock on many cars to avoid starting it in gear, with the possible damage to the car and any nearby people associated with that!

On vehicles fitted with a manual gearbox, the clutch pedal must not be depressed while switching the ignition on or off, otherwise the system would try to start. On vehicles fitted with a automatic gearbox, the brake pedal must not be depressed while switching the ignition on or off, otherwise the system would try to start.

What manual says

maybe I'm reading it wrong. Think it might just mean if you don't want to start it do this otherwise press clutch and start engine.

Gutted! DMKeith in Leeds say it can't be upgraded to Kessy. ☹️ They tried for a couple of days but it seems my build date has been bought forward and my only option is to cancel this order and the re order which of course would mean I would lose my £500 deposit! ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

exactly that - if you don't want to start it, don't depress clutch.. but if you do.. depress as always.. you don't have a choice either way, as it won't start!!!

The Kessy Go is probably enough for you.. I wouldn't worry too much about it quite frankly.. its more secure than full Kessy, but still not as secure as just a traditional blade key..
