Rear Strut Mount Rust !Warning!

Featured Replies

On going to change my rear bump stops ive come across a hidden rust spot under the arch liner. Luckily ive caught mine early but it worth checking your own!

The top rear strut mount is structural so you dont want rust taking hold here!

Here is my 2007 VRS at 118K both sides are similar, ive started to clean mine up here with the wire wheel.

Although not ideal, I'd imagine it gets overlooked and there's probably a few Fabias where the strut is almost through the boot already! :D

Being where it is, an MOT tester has very little chance of seing it to advise or fail.

Yer it certainly could go unnoticed untill its to late.

Ballache amount of arch retainers to take off just to check!

Good info!

Going back a good many years the old Favorit's were prone for the rear dampers making their way into the boot area!

It's never a bad thing to periodically remove the arch liners and have a good clean out behind them.

Good catch. Looks like another job for the summer.

The list is growing.

Same for the long plastic side covers - if they are still on the car, well at least the 9N Polo had them, dump the stored sand/grit and lose weight at the same time!

Be interesting to see how other Fabias look around that mount,as going by your other posts about your sills yours is suffering with rust in a few places?

Maybe it's been a resident of a seaside town?

Yer my sills are suffering. Yer lived at the seaside most of its life and probably didnt get washed much!

Well that explains it then! :D

Oh dear.

The salt in the air does make a massive difference :(

How do all the metal parts underneath look, rear beam/wishbones etc?

All the underbody that is painted and undersealed is fine. Wishbones, struts, rear beam, arb hubs ect have a good coating of surface rust. Looks like most of it will cheap up with a wire wheel and spray. All still structurely sound and no holes or any bits to worry about. The top rear stuts mouts are far the worst! Well where the worst now treated and painted.
