Air Freshener Advice?

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

Not exactly Skoda Specific, but what air fresheners or methods to you recommend for try to keep the car smelling fresh and new?

Cheers

Personally I like the new car smell which in my case normally lasts about a year, then I am quite content to unleash the body function smells on a regular basis!

Leather conditioner keeps that new car smell.

Much better than those grille mounted sprays...or those fir trees things hanging on the mirror!

Totally agree with GaSelle.  I just hate air fresheners, they smell awful an leave a sickly scent in the car  .  I generally keep my cars for about three years and do about 50k kms a year and I've always managed to keep the 'new car smell' right up to trade-in time.  No animals, no messy/smelly food and definitely no smoking!  I even avoid cleaning products too as they can also leave an unwelcome scent , just regular wiping with an anti-static cloth and a damp cloth for the leather seats every few weeks keeps it nice and clean.

I use these;

First saw them in Halfords, went to get replacements and was told it was a "one of trial in one store!"

The website is a bit clunky to say the least. You can buy them on eBay and Amazon. I have the Go system, but I see they have another two in-car varieties.

The scents are subtle and long lasting, without being over powering.

Don't eat in the car hoover it out. some air fresheners are ok. I've an Aldi citrus one right now but often go for the odour neutaliser type ones.

But if you've kids you're ****ed. Just expect the car to stink of McD's 90% of the time.

It's all well and good saying don't smoke or eat in the car if it's a brand new car, if it's a second hand one, then things are a bit different, as the previous owner(s) could have been chain smoking junk food addicts. So for those of us who can't afford (or wouldn't entertain the depreciation associated with a new car) then air fresheners are a god send to masking the aromas, at least until the inside can get a proper clean. I use whatever I can find, depends on what is on offer at the time, but usually go for a magic tree in black ice flavour, but never hang from the mirror, always stash it somewhere discreet.

My favourite by far is California Scents Coronado Cherry from Halfords.

Smells so nice!

For god's sake don't get their Strawberry and Creme one, it's rank.

The Cherry is amazing though, not the cheapest air freshener but lasts a fair while

I use California Scents air fresheners, easily obtainable from high street shops (I get mine from Boyes of all places!) and a decent range of smells, Laguna Breeze being my favourite. Also, as they come in circular tins, they are a perfect fit for the cupholder just behind the handbrake!

Leather conditioner keeps that new car smell.

...........As long as you have leather seats.......

Febreeze in the boot.

most other stuff is ****e

When on a budget instead of going for a Leather or Alcantara interior i find wearing lederhosen can be a good option.

A Mk2 Fabia is my favoured car for having space to wear my hat when driving.

This is my favourite.:- see below

Spray it into the carpets.

Cant stand air freshers hanging from the mirror of vent ones which when they leak destroy the plastics. (The B6 Audi A4 suffered with this)

One i used to do which was quite effective was put fresh Pot Pourri in the ashtray or equivelant.

Currently use chemical guys stripper scent in my taxi

Why would you want your car to smell like a stripper?

'For that smell of success, the smell of women'.

Lovely, in Glasgow it hides many smells like Kebabs & Sick the smell of a successful night out.,

If you have ever smelled it, you'd know why it's my choice of air fresher and all I've had is compliments about how nice my taxi smells

I smoke a few Drum rollies in mine then once every six months I vacuum it and spray some Axe from Lidle in it.

Smells alright to me.
