Where and how much for your uprated shocks ?

Featured Replies

Worth uprating RS shocks on stock suspension ? (this won't count as insurance mod but just maintenance will it I think).

Also am I right thinking Bilstein b8s are the 500 ish price.  (think I saw it somewhere but make be 1z platform I saw ), a lot of places don't seem to touch the 5e yet !

Other than Bil B6 / B8's who else does decent shocks......I think I saw Koni for same price but surely the former is better ?

Also have 67cm ish between ground and the top of arch and 4cm gap about between arch point and where you can see the middle high point of tyre rising. Does this sound like sport suspension ? It doesn't look too bad to be honest and I've no reason to modify the ride height as it looks more balanced than my Fabia mk1 ever did.

Sorry questions, questions, questions.

Note on my car It is OEM rear shock as it has 5q0 512 011 hn dated 06.03.14 quite clearly visible on the shock which is pretty clean to be honest.

"Uprating" is a change, so your insurers should be told. Something other than as supplied. Whether (Hah!) they sting you for it is another matter.

Anything other than factory spec, needs to be informed to your insurance company.

I recently got kw's v1 for not much more than that new, thanks to some clever discount codes.

Worth searching for them when you've made your choice.

Is it "worth it"...nothing really wrong with the stock set up.....but it'd be boring if we all stuck with it ;)

Bah....no need to change yet then, not messing with the insurance industry game.

But taking off worn shocks and putting new ones on to me is just replacing old with new, and no different to pattern parts. If it was lowering fine but its not is it ?

Pattern parts should have the same "performance" as standard, if you are increasing the "performance" by what you fit then you will probably fall foul of the "has your car been modified to increase performance" question they ask. If you are not increasing the performance then why fit them?

If you fitted an OEM shock from a different model probably no-one would know, but if you are upside-down in a ditch with 4 bright yellow Bilsteins in the air, people might start asking questions.

Out of interest what is bothering you about the VRS suspension to want to play with it?

Its done almost 50k now which is about due I would imagine?

My main concern is worn shock response could lead to the car not handling well, I've noticed the lane assist seems to micro-correct a lot which is annoying

(so have turned off), I'm thinking that as the cars going through dips etc if its not handlng the uneven surface well due to suspension wear then this could effect the track of where the car is going?

Its a hella lot of money so I'm quite happy being talked down from Bilsteins if not really needed and there are equivalent replacement options that won't attract insurance consideration. I suppose I could just leave it alone for now and let the new tyres bed in also just to see if it settles down a bit.
