Rear window damaged by other half

Featured Replies

My other half, possibly ex other  half when i see the damage has managed to damage the rear window on my vrs.

I've not seen the damage yet but apparently some how she has managed to scrape the tint  off the inside of the window in 2 places including the heating element.

Is this going to be a replacement window?

Can i use my insurance cover?

Just waiting for her to get home now to see what the damage is

Fuming

She'll have to learn some serious grovelling tactics IMHO!

Since buying my car I have discovered that only part of the rear window heater elements works.... so I'd be interested to see the outcome of this.  Unlikely I can blame your (ex) other-half though....

Are you sure the bit that doesn't work isn't the in-glass aerial?

To the OP:  Stuff happens.  Often staying calm and forgiving them makes them feel more guilty than doing your block.  My wife recently smashed the rear glass on her near new Odyssey.  She didn't do it on purpose (stupid car park design) but I could tell she was waiting for me to explode.  I just said "What a terrible thing to happen to you.  I'll leave it to you to organise the repair." and attended to some other major issues I was dealing with (elderly parent).  I'm absolutely convinced that she felt even worse after that as she couldn't transfer the guilt to me for being a hot-headed a**e-hole.

I'd also suggest you acquaint her with Steak & BJ Day.  It's already happened this year (14 mar) but maybe you can play catch-up.

I only get a few working lines across the rear window which clear, which is unlike any demister I've had in previous cars.  I can see what looks like aerial stuff on the side windows though.

Right i've managed to get a couple of photos. There are 2 small spots where the film has been taken off the window which are both over the heating elements.

The other half was upset about the damage i was a bit grumpy but not to bad.

I cant attach the photos as it says its too big and i dont know how to change the size.

Can you get parts of the tint film replaced?

Use www.tinypic.com and it'll give you a crunched version. ;)

The outcome was indeed tiny.

Hah, not normally that small! She said.

When she initially told me i thought she had put scratches all the way down the window

You can repair the heated element with some special conductive paint and two strips of masking tape carefully placed.

The tint is a job for a tinting company to remove the old film and reapply new.

The other option is to check your excess on your insurance. Glass claims don't not affect your NCD and an accidentally broken window would solve all your problems if you get my drift....

They'll have to strip the tint off & do the whole window.  A good tint place should be able to match it with the side windows

Happend to me once whilst me and Mrs Goldfinger were courting, we borrowed her dads car and you know what took place, I told her to remove her high heels but would she listen.............................
