Is your VRS quicker in the Cold

Featured Replies

New to the VRS & Diesel but general principle on petrol is cold air (more dense) makes car quicker. More so on turbo cars as this is principle of intercooler.

Is it the same for diesel?

Is it noticable & will it be less punchy in summer?

Apart from getting clutch slip when it's cold (although after 4 goes at the "Italian De-Glaze" I've not had any slip!) the Fabia vRS loves the cold weather.

Cold air into the air intake and cold air over the intercooler really do make a difference.

You'll notice reduced performance when it gets hot over the summer, not a lot but it is noticable.

When running standard intercooler, it will be much better in the cold than in the hot summer air (think of all that lovely freezing air going into your system ;))

When its hotter the standard intercooler struggles to cool the air down so you get issues with heatsoak if trying to make the same progress. Its negligible, but on a remapped car you'll get moments of lacking power in temps of 30 degC (ish)

Obviously, a front mounted intercooler (vented one) will be more efficient at cooling the turbocharged air down, and reduce heatsoak dramatically.

Sadly, to summarize, it will be "less punchy" compared to now.

Unquestionably... YES!

However it does suffer in the summer, so make sure you make the most of it in the coming cold months!

Without a doubt

So is every car though....

Summer is a time when one of these will come in handy. Ignore green paint - it soon went black. :)

If I'm not mistaked it involves burning the clutch to make the clutch plate smoother or something like that.

Mines pants at the moment,

On a long hill (private road ;) ) on the way to work I can usually get 105mph without a problem, I've struggled to keep at 95 this week. I'm also averaging 35mpg compared to the usuall 42 :(

Does the car limit the power when cold as the temp guage hasn't moved at all.

Hmmmmm, can honestly say i cant feel the difference.
