EGR Valve

Featured Replies

It looks like I may have to replace the EGR Valve on my 2010 Octavia 2.0 Diesel 1Z5  Engine code BMM.  I'll try cleaning it first but if that doesn't work can anyone recumbent the best place to purchase either OEM or a good pattern part.

Many thanks

Seems

Hi 'seems' I have been cleaning my EGR and pipework and while its easy to clean the EGR and flap as they are top left as you look at the engine bay, going past that and its a swine, as I cleaned mine and it was well coked up then I thought i would go on and clean the inlet manifold, to get to it you remove the turbo, offside driveshaft, pipework,loosen the DPF,etc and its all at the back of the engine working off mirrors  :devil: :devil: :devil:   whats up with the car ? cheers Stuart

Hi Stuart, thanks for the reply.   The Glow plug warning light started flashing on my way home from work tonight. It went off for a bit and then started up again.  Subsequently the car went into limp home mode.  I got home ....slowly and switched  off the engine.  After ten minutes it started fine.  So far the Glow plug light hasn't come back on again, but now the engine management light is on..  i don't mind having a look and cleaning up the EGR valve, but the thought of lying on my back in the drive with the car on ramps doesn't appeal very much. Your description of what's required makes it even less so.

All the best

1) you got PD engine and removing EGR shouldn't be that hard. It's a nasty thing with newer CR engines;

2) if it doesn't help then consider mapping it out. Will be cheaper.

On the BMM engine used in the Scout and 4x4 the EGR has a cooler which is a pain to get at.

As for the OP's problem, you really need to get the car scanned for fault codes before you start dismantling things. There is no guarantee that the EGR is the source.

Well worth getting a hand operated vacuum pump/tester if you don't already have one, in order to check that the EGR diaphragm and the pipes up to it hold vacuum and that the valve opens and closes as it should.

Having said that, with regards to buying parts like this I have found Darkside Developments very efficient, they can supply standard spec parts as well as modified.

I had issue with mine EGR (BVY 2.0FSI)

The tooth wheel had broken tooth so wheel stuck.

My mechanic lifted wheel, turned it a bit and reinserted back.

Luckily the wheel now can turn again. :)

I got DAMOS for BMM engine if you want to turn EGR off...it is useless anyway and does help only to reduce performance and make your engine dirty.
