Headlights.

Featured Replies

So, drove my Citigo in the dark for the first time recently, and the headlights are acceptable, but they're not comparable to the headlights on my parent's Yeti which is much better.

So I need recommendations for headlight bulbs that are an improvement over the standard ones!

Osram night breaker are the bulb of choice h4

Another vote for Nightbreaker Unlimited here. Been running them for two years, they last well for an upgrade bulb. Also, headlight aim may be a bit low. My last one was set very low from the factory and benefited greatly from proper adjustment. Not driven the new one in the dark yet!

Aren't they whiter than the usual bulbs? Meaning the side lights will seem particularly yellow in comparison...

They are a bit, I value the improved visibility over the slight cosmetic issue.

Is it possible to change the spreading of light in the fog lights too?

Just because when I tested them, they offered very little illumination of the area in front of the car, and only seemed to brighten up the kerb for about a foot or so in front of the car, from the driver's seat.

I'm used to the Yeti's front fog lights which are stupendous and really penetrate the fog and offer a significant improvement in visibility in fog.

Have to admit In the 23 years I have been driving I have used front fogs once or twice and I live in the middle of nowhere and we get some humdingger fogs

I've only been driving for a year and a couple of months but I've found fog lights fairly useful around here in some of the proper fogs we've had. The other issue is the fogs only tend to be prevalent in the dark around here, so headlights can really reduce your ability to see anything on the road, hence where fog lights come in useful.

You can adjust them, but if you go too high, you bleach out visibility of the kerb / road markings on proper fog. Remember, front fogs should only really be used when fog is too dense to see the road surface. Illuminating anything further than maybe 3M from the car is the job for headlights. In the 1,700,000 miles I've driven so far, I've used front fog lights twice. I've seen them misused / poorly adjusted daily! Ideally, manufacturers will get round to making fog lights switch off automatically at maybe 10mph.

Ditto. I recently fitted a set of Nightbreaker Unlimited bulbs. There is a significant increase in the light output over the factory bulbs but the cut off is still quite short compared to other cars on dipped beam. On main beam they throw light for a good few hundred yards. I'm going to ask if the headlight alignment can be raised to the MOT limit when It goes in for its next service.

Fitted a pair of Osram nightbreaker ultimate to my daughters car yesterday.

She drove it last night but is not out of bed yet, so can't ask what she thought!

Teenagers eh!

Have been using them on the Yeti for a while and really impressed with them on that.

Have one on my bike and that is also a great improvement.

I do think it depends on how good the reflector in the headlight is, but so far no complaints.

I've been driving for over thirty years now and never really found front fog lights all that useful. Design and efficiency seems to vary widely from car to car but having said that the fog lights on the Citigo are some of the best that I have seen. Same lights as used on the Scirocco and Amarok, I believe.

Or the opposite and limit the car to 30mph when on as if it's that bad fog you need fogs on the front you really shouldn't be doing 60mph+

I like the idea of limiting a car to 30mph when front foglights are on. All the idiots that leave them on permanently would have to switch them off or be restricted to 30.

The main reason for asking if you can adjust the spreading of the fog lights is because I'm going to see if I can switch on the cornering fog light functionality with VCDS, and so I was wondering if it was possible to adjust the spreading so it would light up the inside of a corner more effectively.

To be fair, of you need the front fogs on, 10mph will be pushing it, so limit at 10mph works well. Or alternatively, just ban all the knob heads who drive with front fogs on when they shouldn't.
