Not Skoda be gentle..

Featured Replies

Ok...ive got an A6 C6 (06) 2.0 tdi now it's maybe the same as what's in some Skoda's so the question is....are you folks with a Skoda with the same engine is it "restricted" in first, ie you're pulling away and all's well then within a few secs there's a flat spot, once in 2nd ect ect it's normal. I Googled it and seemingly there IS for some stupid reason this factory restriction and only a remap can get rid of it. Now the thing is, i had an 05 A4 2.0 tdi auto (same engine) but was fine, i don't understand it. I'd though of the egr but as i say, once in 2nd ect ect it's fine so doubt it's that..

So much asking that....dam near 50 folk and bugger all

Patience friend.

Some of those 50 are probably search engines and you have to read it to find out if you can help or not.

51 now and I can't help either ;)

+1 to Aspman

I have looked at your post, and i really can't help. The only suggestion i can make is that maybe the engine is torque restricted in first gear to preserve the gearbox/clutch. But then i don't really know.

Tbh your title is about as vague as it could be as well, so most people won't even know what your posting about until they've opened it

Unless your pulling away with your foot flat to the floor I can't see why a restriction in torque would be felt at all if it did indeed have some kind of limitation. Is this problem under normal driving conditions or only when you are hammering it?

I looked earlier, have no idea, and there wasnt even any point thread bumping as it was top of the list at the time.

Sundays are a bit slow anyway, and, as said i had no idea what the thread was until i opened it (tbh not the first time with one of your thread titles, tho i mean no offence by that..)

Normal moving, but you'd need to put the foot down quite a bit just move normal....it moves off normal then within secs it's like i take my foot off the pedal, I've never experienced anything like it and had few more cars power cars that didn't have this crap..

Is it a manual or automatic?  I drove an A6 C5 auto that did the same thing - it was horrendous and must have been faulty, and I believe the CVT auto boxes are known for being problematic.  Head over to the Audi forums and find the section for your particular car.  You should find what you need there.

The A6 has a longitudinal engine layout so uses different transmissions to any Skoda.

I believe a 2006 A6 2.0 TDi auto will have the CVT which doesn't actually have any gears but is able to simulate stepped ratios. They are not great and I'd suspect a gearbox issue if it's an auto.

On manuals yes there is a torque limit in 1st to protect the drive train and prevent wheelspin on FWD models. But it is a cap and should only be really noticeable on a foot to the floor launch.

If it's pulling away then dying on normal throttle then there is probably a problem, hard to say what that could be without investigation, sounds like a boost or EGR issue.

Sorry guy's, yes it manual

Lee what you say makes sense but it's bloody stupid and can be dangerous, my old A4 (b7) was auto (cvt) same engine, I'm not flooring it but pulling away the same as most folk, i did a fault code check yesterday and nothing but something somewhere's not right or if this is the way an 06 A6 2.0 tdi is in standard form....it's bad.

I'll see if there's one near me in a dealer and get a test in it

How is it dangerous if its only in first and designed so you dont turn your drivetrain into a pile of shrapnel all over the road? I get it might be annoying the traffic light gp, but if its as Lee described then its dangerous, its a helper, probably put in due how much heavier the A6 is than other models using the same drivetrain...

Cleo, you seem to get through a lot of cars.

Maybe next time you are buying one you should have a mechanic along with you to have a test drive and give a 2nd opinion

If a car drives in a way that does not suit you maybe walk away.
