Android Pay.

Featured Replies

Nope tried it again in Wilkos and nothing (left it on the reader). I open the app with one default card on the display and nothing gets excited that another NFC device is trying to read my phone. It's a PITA, much quicker to use card.

Used my phone to pay in a hungry horse.

Literally unlocked it to home screen and tapped the card reader.

I might try doing that, NFC is on so will unlock with finger and hover the phone over the reader. I will not open the Android Pay app, maybe that is why it is not working (hopefully opening the app is stopping the NFC however it does warn you if it is switched off).

OK so after totalling giving up on this I tried it tonight at Costa coffee and Home Bargains (both had Apple pay symbols) and both worked fine. My gut feeling is that ordinary contactless doesn't work but if it states Apple pay or Android then its all good.

I remember in Wilkos that it was read but the till didn't know how to handle the payment.

It can only get better.

I've used it just fine on ordinary contact less terminals. Undoubtedly there are some issues though

WH Smith seems to have the most tetchy terminals, some will accept some won't. It's just annoying that you never know which will and which won't work.

It just needs to know where to send the payment which is just a software update

I've also got an HTC 10, in a silicone case. Tried twice at the same Starbucks - 1 worked, 1 failed. Tried at University cafe - failed 3 times.

This is working well now especially where Apple pay is accepted (as above I think the tills need to be updated even though they are contactless).

The trick is the top half of the phone has to be over the terminal, I normally do this by offsetting the phone by 90° to the terminal.

Had my first instance of the payment terminal saying something like security check validation required. Please insert card. Had to use chip & pin.

Is this a random thing?

Never had that before, I've now used my phone to pay probably 70 or 80 times now. Perfect for coffees and trips to the pharmacy etc.

Odd thing is only used pin to pay for something the day before.

Never had issues in a few years using contactless either.

It does seem to be random checks by the banks. I tried to use mine in a little chef the other day and it declined. I used a different card and called the bank..turned out they weren't certain it was me so declined it. The concern that someone may have stolen my phone!

Thinking about it have had a few issues lately with the terminals needing a few attempts despite Android pay going through. So had payment, refund, payment.

Perhaps that's why.
