re-map mpg

Featured Replies

Helooo,

Just wondering if anyone has any idea what the down sides of a re-map are ie. MPG. I know it will be less, but by how much? i know alot of it is down to how heavy your right foot becomes after said re-map aswell, but what about everyday urban driving. The reason for my VRs is i need somethin for work which is roomy ish' with good MPG with a bit of go; hence VRs.

Also insurance...i've been quoted

i never had a remap, but had a dragon tunning box on my vrs and the mpg was better with the box on.

Used to average 43 mpg, after remap average 37 mpg, this wont be the case for everyone, but one of the few people who actually 'use' there remap ;)

I have been told that decent remaps shouldn't affect your MPG too much.

On the last 1000 miles from "trip 2" on the mfa/trip pooter, 38.9MPG average. That was motorway up to scotland, "A" road to cardiff and a little town driving in each location.

When I am working away I tend to travel late at night so the roads are quieter so do make fairly "brisk" progress, car has 11k on the clock and is a june 05 registered.

Be interested to see the average MPG from an octy vRS over 1000 miles, for "personal" reasons.

Fluff'

I average arounf 45-48mpg a week. Thats town, motorway and counrty lanes. Seems a little better by about 1 or 2mpg with the remap.

Remember that most tuning boxes will screw the figures that the MFA gives you because they are fooling the ECU into thinking sensors are reading different values.

Most remaps are ok though.

Thanx for that.

If i can get 45-48 mpg with the re-map i'll be well happy. Better than the average i get of 30 mpg from the car on my drive at the mo' (307 xsi) which is being replaced by the VRs. And i would guess its also slightly better than my 170bhp R5 GT Turbo, of which to be honest i dont really know its mpg.......i dont think i want too.

Thanx again and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!:D

DOH!

A lot depends on how heavy you plant that right foot, whether you're in the optimum gear, if you're going up a hill, and general weather conditions :P

Having to keep the engine running whilst awaiting a ferry from the UK to finally arrive 45 minutes late I can assure you is not great for the fuel economy either ;)

I get around 32mpg from the Octy over 1000 miles, mixture of town and motorway.
