LOL I have to driven a few and to be honest don't think they are fast as standard

If it's an 04 model there's a chance it was subject to a recall on the fuel pump. Check it's been serviced properly and look for a sticker by the spare wheel to say the recall work has been done.

Not all cars were affected by the recall but it's worth being aware of it. If the owner doesn't know anything about it give Skoda UK customer services a call with the registration and/or VIN numbers and they'll tell you if it needs to go into the dealer. Recall work is all done under warranty.

Other things to look out for include squealing breaks when reversing and gear levers that rattle a little while in neutral (this has to be checked when warm).

Leaks and Rattles would be a good place to start, check the carpets for signs of dampness. The paints pretty soft so take a good look at the condition of the body as well.

Have a look at the normal places on the seats for fuzzing. The mechanicals should be fine as its quite new.

Don't forget the creaking driver seat base (shift around a bit while you drive), and check the tailgate struts aren't leaking oil around the rod seals - both commonly reported faults.

On an 04 plate both should still be warranty items.

Also check the fog lamps for cracked lenses, and that the rear screen washer works properly. The recent cold weather may have caused the feed pipe to blow off if used whilst jets were frozen.

Buy a Porsche/M3/Evo/WRX, that would be quick.

I have a nice calibra turbo with 300bhp/330lbft if I want to go ast, the vRS is for my wife:)

but surely a fabia should be about the same performance as it has similar torque once re-mapped

Well at least you're looking at 1 in the proper colour :)

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear ;)

nonononononono!!!

oh my... of course the fabia would be faster, its a much smaller car and therefore weights less..

:D

05/2004 is the facelift time too.

Evident by the older style rear lights and the one touch indicators amongst other things.

If it's a private sale try to ascertain if any mods have been done.

LOL!

maybe you need to pop round and I will take you out for a spin!

it does 0-60 in 4.6 and the 1/4 mile in just over 13 secs

and you can get the speedo needle to bend against the stop if you want to go to silly top speeds and it only weighs 1352 kg with 4wd

Hmmm, even so, Vauxhall Calibra has me thinking Miami Vice, not sure why:confused:

Hi

What is the vmax of that then? With the Calibra's aerodynamics, I would expect it to go very well indeed. Gearing permitted, I would have expected over 160.

We wanted to do one with a RWD conversion and dry sumped 357 (bulkhead cut job), but never got round to it.

to be honest I don't know, but as the standard car does 152mph I would imagine it would now do over 160mph, I have had a GPS speed of 159mph which it done quite easily.

Thing is the calibra isn't a super car, it only has 288mm front brakes and a chassis that is basically a cavaliers

Its also not very sensible doing that sort of speed on the road

well nice to know you have a vauxhall.....the jokes on you now!

that aside nice choice in the Fabia VRS your wife will be very pleased.

even more so as she will be v happy as she wont have to ride in the Vauxhall barge!

its getting sold! going to use the fabia and my company car more often

isn't the 4x4 system of vauxhalls a bit dodgy, my mate bought one and ended up ditching the engine for a 2.5v6 and sticking the turbo into his carlton and also making the calibra FWD as he said the 4x4 although designed well was made of marzipan and wasn't exactly reliable

those are very good times though mate

yeah they suffer with transfer box issues on early ones, later ones had fully synthetic oil which seems to stop it breaking as often

rest of the 4wd system is fine though

VRS is pretty quick. Just got a new one for my wife.

Remember when I first drove one I was not impressed. But thats cause I was reving it to hard like a petrol and 130bhp in quite a heavy car isnt much.

If you change up early and use the torque its alot quicker and the Fabia will break 50 mpg intead of struggling to get 20 with the calibra.
