AutoProtect paint policy.

Has anyone used this?

I've paid the extra for it and am hoping to have the scuff that was left by the old boy who bonked my car last week covered & repaired by them, but I've tried ringing & ringing and ringing and never had an answer to my phone calls.

Now I find this quite worrying as I've paid an extra £400 for the 3 years protection against incidents like this and I've filed the claim via their app & I've got no response, no phone calls from their repairers to arrange an appointment absolute silence,

Should I be duly worried? Has anyone else used them and what was their workmanship like?

Or should I just go to Chips Away?

I'd be driving to your dealer and ask they resolve your issue. If they sold you the cover and they should be partially responsible. At the very least, they need to be aware that something they are selling is reflecting on them if they're pushing that sort of thing with new car sales. They should be jumping up to help you. If not, ask to speak to an area manager.

I finally got through to them today and then told me they'd authorised it a few days ago.

However the "technician" who will be doing the work will not be available until 28th June or 20th July!  This is simply unacceptable to me, they want me to submit a claim within 7 days of the damage being done, yet when it comes to doing the work, they want to take a month!

So...

If you are offered AutoProtect by your dealer, please learn from my experience and DON'T BUY IT. It's TBQH a scam, as they AutoProtect are simply a company that dishes out the work to subcontractors who then do the work. But trying to get them to do the work is a whole different ballgame.

If they want to know why, point them to this post,

I'll be going to Chips Away to see if they can do it within the few days that I have before I go on holiday, as I'd like to have a car that looks half decent.

Send the 3rd party the bill.

Read the T&C's to see if it states anything about a time limit for repairs;"we guarantee a repair within XX days".

If there is and the dates they have quoted are outside of this, they have breached their terms and you can claim your money back.

Also contact the Dealer Principal from the dealership that sold you the policy and make him aware that third party products they are selling are not up to scratch and see what he 'offers/suggests'.

I have been in contact with the senior man at Garlands and rather oddly I got an email, I got a phone call and after talking to them yesterday when they said there was a very long wait in my area and I said I'd take my business elsewhere (Chips Away or other bodyshop), I got another phone call this morning and quelle surprise, I've been offered a much earlier appointment, one that's slap bang (probably the most inappropriate term) in the middle of my 20 days off.

  • 1 month later...

I've had a somewhat similar experience. I claimed for a small chip near the badge on the front of my Fabia Estate. I used the app to make the claim as instructed on the blurb they give you. Impressively, I got a message straight back saying that I would hear from the repairer within two working days. Ten days later, I still hadn't heard from the repairer so I phoned autoprotect. They told me that I would need to remove the badge and did I want to go ahead. I said I'd think about it and came onto this forum to see what would be involved. It seems fairly straightforward so I phoned back to authorise the repair. Now they say that the repair can't be done because it's near the badge - derrrrr!!!! However, if I resend the photo of the damage, they'll get the repairer to reconsider it. So I send the photo again and am now waiting to hear back. I sent the photo last Thursday and as of today, Saturday, I haven't heard anything. As I bought my car from Garlands, I'm interested in TheWanderer's strategy of approaching their senior man. I'll give autoprotect until Tuesday and then the gloves will be off. In the meantime, I've written a very negative review of autoprotect on trustpilot which is found here: https://uk.trustpilot.com/reviews/579a19460000ff00097562ba - I see that they respond to negative reviews so that might work but so far no response to the review from them.

Having had this experience, I definitely would not buy the autoprotect paint protection policy and I'm surprised that Garlands sell it.

Me neither. Waste of money. Easy income for the dealers.

They did eventually acknowledge my claim and after much faffing about with dates, the guy came on a day when it rained, luckily he had a small tent to put over the car and it was all done in just over 45 mins.

And when he'd done it, it was a truly excellent job he did of it too. So it seems that after having a word with Garlands and giving them a bashing on Google, they did the work to a very high standard.

It's a shame that the backend office lets the guys who do the job down so badly.

The idea of paint protect is a good one, however its implementation is lousy. Would I recommend it?

Yes for the quality of the work, no for the poor handling of the claim.

That's naughty because manufacturers have to use approved paint schemes for there warranty purposes, a man in a tent will not use these products, so interesting to see if this affects future warranty claims on painted panel

Just like the wanderer, I had to make numerous calls plus send several emails before finally getting approval for a repair. Now waiting for the repair appointment.

I don't think that Skoda dealers would sell it if it didn't comply with SUK standards. As I've said you cannot see the repair and it's excellent, don't be put off when I say a tent, it's more of a gazebo with sides to cover the area they're working on and reduce the dust levels.

Regardless if u can't see it it would've been done in inferior products, you cannot use the relevant 2k HS clearcoat in a tent it has to be used in a Spray booth and baked at correct times of technical data sheet
