Oh my god what a relief!

Featured Replies

Hi all today I've been on a 300 mile trip today but only after the first 20 miles after some thrilling driving on a twisty road I noticed a hurrendous shake from the car everytime I went near the pedal putting power down and no power was being generated

I started to notice through the trip if I gently pressed the peddle, easing the power on that it would not shake and would gain power

My first thought and my heart literally sunk, I thought my clutch was slipping and my flywheel had failed causing the knock

Only on the way home on the LAST 20 miles I was trying to keep my speed up as I had a car behind me and I had my foot pressed down on the peddle for much longer than I wanted too and to my surprise I got an engine management light flash at me!

So when I got home I stuck the code reader on to find misfire on cylinder one

OH MY GOD IM RELIEVED

Senses like a ninja the whole of the journey im sure, listening with ears pricked up and goosebumps   Not so bad, probably a coil pack, not end of the world, as long as all that unbirnt fuel hasnt now poisoned the cat  :x  Only jokin of course ;)

Oh yeah the journey was no where near as relaxing as I thought just a lot of cruising and feathering the pedal as soon as it shook, but thinking it was the clutch I thought I was going to be stranded on the middle of nowhere lol

Is a misfire much better than a slipping clutch or worn flywheel?

Is a misfire much better than a slipping clutch or worn flywheel?

Please in my head it's a plug on coil pack

Don't take this relief away from me!

To me it is. New set of plugs and coils is better than clutch or dmf

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S7

A worn clutch or flywheel is relatively easy to diagnose and fix.

If the misfire isn't a spark plug or coil things can quickly get complicated.

I agree it is likely to the above, I'm just saying it wouldn't be "Oh my God I'm relieved" euphoria for me just yet  :D

Always look on the bright side of life  :D  :D  :D  I think everyone hopes for the easiest and cheapest repair for anyone on the forum. Please let us know what it was i the long run

Coil pack has been changed and it is now running perfectly fine :-)

Thank god!

Excellent, just what we wanted to hear

Why is it that after almost 20 years, VAG (or rather their suppliers) cannot make a reliable coilpak that lasts the lifetime of an engine?

I really think that VAG dont care anymore once the warranty ends.

I think they can but do they wish to do it? I'm not sure about that.

I recently talked to a mechanic about car parts. He mentioned that VAG finally has got wonderful skills in creating parts that last not more than certain limitation (probably all do it that way but VAG was mentioned es the leader). If the turbo is designed for 250k km then it won't last longer even if you drive properly or have good oil. Whatever,  you have to change the turbo.

Nobody needs cars that can drive 600k km with the same engine, flywheel, turbo etc.

At least they last longer than the renaults :)

I always carry a coil pack and spark plug and spanner with my car since it happened to me.

Glad it was a simple repair.
