octavia vrs tyre noise

Featured Replies

I use Michelin sport3 on 18 inch alloys with far too much toad tyre noise. Any suggestions for quieter ride please.

Nothing more annoying than excessive Toad noise.

I went from Continental to Michelin PS3 also on 18 inch wheels and found them a lot quieter. I do run mine at a slightly higher pressure at 35psi all-round, higher than Skoda's recommendations.

I use PS3s too and find them ok but very dependent on road surface. Hardly any noise at all on some French motorways but can be very noisy on some of the degraded surfaces on the A82.

Have you tried a decent 4 -wheel alignment on conservative settings and have you checked the inner edge of the rear tyres for saw-toothing?

PS3 are usually one of the quieter tyres.

I echo what brad1.8T says. The vRS are prone to the rear alignment being out (usually set wrong from the factory). Some revised settings were released a long time ago but some places don't always follows those and use the old values.

Go to a decent place that has a hunter rig as they download all the up to date settings from the internet to set up the car properly.

If you rear tyres are "sawtoothed" then get the alignment done then some new rear tyres.

+1 on getting your alignment checked, if they are sawtoothed they make a hellish noise.

I went to GY Efficient Grip Performance specifically because they are sold as low noise. It did make a bit of a difference.

I also put bitumen flashing in the boot and under the rear seats. Again a little better but nothing dramatic.

The VRS is a loud car, it's probably the weakest point in the whole vehicle, just a bit too much penny pinching there. You'll never make it much quieter without a lot of effort and money. I assume some of the professional sound deadening kits and materials would have better results but they are expensive.
